It is curious that curtisc would double check his own exponent. Later to be checked by MadPoo
http://www.mersenne.org/report_exponent/?exp_lo=72295777&full=1
It looks like the double check was assigned back in July, expired in October, and was finished in December. Strange, but I don't think this is the magic number. |
It looks like the double check was assigned back in July, expired in October, and was finished in December.
Where does one find that info?
That info could also be faked I guess [/conspiracy] |

http://www.mersenne.org/report_exponent/?exp_lo=72295777&full=1
I highly doubt that's the number. Keep in mind that George said the prime was discovered months ago. The first result for that number is only six weeks old. |

That info could also be faked I guess [/conspiracy]
I have a partial dump of the database from the appropriate time to see that. |
Distraction
This is going to be a long wait...
I know everyone here understands odds too well to waste money on the lottery. But if you did win the current record PowerBall, how many Google data centers could one buy to search for primes? And how much would that speed up the search? (Cheap attempt to distract people until Tuesday announcement.) |
This is where it all goes wrong... Knowing full well the odds I did decide to purchase one ticket today so I could join in the anticipation. I used some random groupings of the digits of M49 as my choices.
If it wins I will build GIMPs a google sized data center |

isprime = 1;

(Not sure if similar logic applies to burning cycles on looking for M-primes, I'll let the stats wonks address that. :) |
I don't know why we don't just go ahead and reveal the next primes, you know such as 96532433, 137362691, or even jump to 364826447

Looks like someone had a false positive ;) M364826447 has a factor: 2069824677109714702657 |
