I don't understand it.

I have about 4 different Kindle accounts I can send my bought content to when I buy stuff on my computer, but the only way I can differentiate them is to compare content. And, now I discover that I can share content on my tablet with other devices, but all I get is device names with no description.

Why, WHY...don't we have the ability to ping devices to know what's what? Just a simple messaging ability, nothing fancy. Maybe just a number, start at the top of the unknown device list and go 1, 2,3,4, bambambam down the list so I can go around the house and see what's what, then maybe a weird letter combination so I know it's not a coincidence with someone else doing the same thing.

I don't want tiles on my desktop or watches that can call in a new order for toilet paper, I want what I already have access to to actually work well with other stuff. It doesn't have to talk to me or give me the ability to turn it on and off from across the room, I just want it to be convenient in a way that's invisible.

Am I old, is that the problem? My dad only wants a phone to make phone calls, my mom is adamant about me not enabling the Internet capability on the living room tv, and I just my Kindle to tell me which Amazon account it's connected to.

You can name your Kindle and it appears on the top row. Would that help?

I suppose asking why the OP has multiple Kindle accounts would be pointless, since the whole point of the thread is attention-seeking. JasonG, forum new-thread-whoring practitioner extraordinaire.

Our Kindle account is actually owned by the feral teenager that resides with us. We figure he will outlive us so it makes more sense to buy the "books" under his account and then share them with our Kindle. (Fortunately that is a supported option!)

The whole issue of digital media "ownership" is weird. Ideally we would own a real library of books that could be sold or given away. But, we accept the weirdness because it is just so darn convenient to have hundreds of books in a device that you can read/search/whatever any time.

As for starting lots of threads, that does not bother us, but we can understand it might bother others. We have toyed with the idea of a sub-forum dedicated to individual threads "owned" by members to just ramble in. We kinda do that now ourself in the (oddly named) "ho-pourri" thread. Do any of you think that would be a cool idea?

I suggest collecting these kinds of short "a reader sounds off" threads in ho-pourri might be a good idea ... and think how it would boost your much-watched post count of that thread!

No! 25 years ago, what software went into computers was decided by engineers because the speed and space were so restricted. Today, there is so much room that what software goes into devices is decided by competing commercial interests.

Well, let's just figure that short of being a deep-sea diver, the pressure exerted upon a baby during birth is likely the highest pressure that person will experience in their entire lifetime. There is a good reason for babies' bones (especially their skulls) initially being soft and pliable. You're not going to look (or feel) beautiful after [I]that[/I] kind of trip.

There are so many facets of the entire development and birth process that must go just right, that it is nothing short of a miracle that things work out with such astonishing regularity in both the human and animal kingdoms.
