Why should the Great Wall of China get all the tourists? We have almost 2000 miles of available development and we'd be fools to let Mexico buy into this investment. It can't be as long as all of China's brickage but we it can be bigger, better and more modern.
Make walls great again! Take all those annual friendship maneuvers that we do with South Korea along their northern border and invite them to The Wall too! Tourist dollars + military industrial complex dollars too! Ka-ching! Almost two thousand miles of greatness baby! Forget the Appalachian Trail. I'm looking at Tour de Fence! Sports events. Cross-marketing. Play Rocky musak and jog alongside licensed Forest Gump tour trainers! Route 86. |
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.

Politico: Latinos for Trump founder warns of ‘taco trucks on every corner’
... and Twitter gets the munchies. Elsewhere across a shining sea: Speak Polish and die
Arkadiusz Jóźwik, an immigrant from Poland who had been living in England for four years, decided last Saturday evening (for the first time, according to his brother) to go down to a pizzeria in a strip mall in Harlow, Essex, and collect his pizza rather than have it delivered. He stood outside with a friend eating a slice, and a group of teenage boys who often hung out there heard him speaking to his friend in Polish (he didn't know much English). That linguistic evidence of foreignness was enough for one of the teenagers to attack him. Others joined in and savagely beat him. The friend was also attacked, sustaining fractured bones in his hands and bruising to his stomach. Both men were taken to a local hospital, but Arkadiusz had to be transferred to Addenbrooke's in Cambridge to be treated for a head injury, and by Monday he was dead.

Stupid and violent young males with nothing much to do on a Saturday night will often latch onto any kind of foreignness, racial or linguistic, as an excuse for mindless violence against defenceless strangers who are arguably alien. That is why campaigns targeting immigrants as a threat — a standard modus operandi for politicians like Farage and Trump — are so appallingly irresponsible.
|
Ernst, I'm disappointed in your penny-pinching, small-minded approach. Where's your vision?
You should make your moat at least 100 metres wide and 30m deep with the surface at sea level. It will be self-financing after initial construction costs by charging shipping to travel between the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
I said nothing about the scale of the Mexi-Moat - but I agree, bigger is better. Here are some added thoughts I posted in a similar moat-related comment to NC on Thursday: Since level-trenching through the mountains is infeasible, one could always do stair-stepped moat-sections up and down the mountains, maybe with attractive waterfalls or Panama-canal-style locks and solar-powered pumping systems to circulate water among them, and fish ladders to allow the crocs and piranhas freedom of movement. If securing enough fresh water to keep the newly-dug moat filled proves infeasible, just use salt water. Import some saltwater crocs from Oz, maybe add some sharks or suitably flesh-voracious species like barracudas or moray eels, voila! – a thriving thousand-mile-plus saltwater marsh ecosystem. We spent somewhere approaching $20 Trillion to bail out the crooked bank cartels and a couple trillions more blowing up Iraq for no good reason besides “Bush family honor”, surely a few tens of billions for a border moat and the hundreds of thousands of well-paying engineering and construction jobs it would create is easily within our reach. When the Mexicans see the economic benefits of such a project they might end up begging to make it a joint initiative after all. Does that fit better with your grand-canal vision? The system of locks would also allow for a fresh/saltwater junction to the Rio Grande, if the proposed western-side Big Ditch indeed ends up requiring salt water. |

Thirty-eight percent of Americans have argued with a friend, 30 percent with a family member, and 16 percent with a co-worker. Ten percent have managed to get into arguments with all three groups.
|
