Republicans to Pull Money From Trump Ads and Spend It on Alcohol
I think it may really be over. Admittedly I'm speaking from a very biased position.
Boooze more effective than advertising.
“It’s questionable whether the ads we were thinking of buying for Trump would work,” Harland Dorrinson, the Pennsylvania G.O.P. chairman, said. “We received the first shipment of alcohol this afternoon, and I can tell you that it’s already working.” According to the most recent filing with the Federal Election Commission, after the outlays for wine and spirits, the R.N.C. will still have a million dollars in cash on hand, which will go to beer.
I had fun calling that truly venerable journal of science and inquiry an opinion rag. I think your detector is likely just fine.
Current US politics in general, and many Republican presidential supporters in particular, are so weird as seen from this side of the pond, that I had genuine doubts.

https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/scanty
The adjective scanty comes from the Old Norse scamt, which means "short or brief," and so suggests a small amount. The word usually suggests a meager amount, and can refer to anything that is barely sufficient. Someone trying to stretch a meal might offer scanty servings. On a humorous note, a Roaring Twenties flapper referred to her underwear as scanties.
|

It was also reported that LBJ said of Ford, "He's a nice fellow but he spent too much time playing football without a helmet." |

I understand your position. As a Canadian living in Barbados, we're all really rather confused how "The Greatest Nation on Earth" has reduced itself to this low level of quality in the political space. Where is the serious debate about serious issues? "I have heard" that Canada is considering building a wall to the south (and, separately, to the West). And they're going to have the US of A pay for it to prevent illegal immigration of Americans should Trump win the election. (This, is of course, a joke. Trump won't win. And even if he does win immigrants are welcomed in Canada; particularly from repressive regimes.) |

The most damaging thing to Ford was Chevy Chase's portrayal of him: http://www.zimbio.com/10+Awesome+Moments+in+Political+Satire/articles/9YKaxlCQOJb/7+Chevy+Chase+Redefines+Gerald+Ford
So how did he get a reputation for being a klutz that haunted him all the way into the 1976 election season? Blame Chevy Chase. It was Ford who slipped on his way down the stairs of Air Force One upon landing in Austria in 1975, but it was Chevy Chase who stretched that gaffe into a weekly gag on Saturday Night Live. As a result, Ford never lived down his image as a clumsy oaf who might mistake a water glass for a telephone or go tumbling over his own desk.
|
I'd be willing to bet that Lyndon's opinion of Ford predated the Chase routine.
