Totally Awesome Graphical Representations of Data
 

This is a corresponding thread to the silly picture thread.

Rules:
1) No discussion. All extraneous verbiage will be deleted. (Like the silly picture thread.)
2) A link pointing to the original source is ok, but it may only show as a single dot.
3) Must be awesome.
4) Must be a proper graphical representation of data. A photo of a cat might be data, but it is not a graphical representation of data.
5) This is not the thread for funny Venn diagrams or pie charts showing the amount of pie eaten [URL="http://mersenneforum.org/showpost.php?p=345787&postcount=161"].[/URL] Mods please feel free to move those to the silly picture thread.

Sorry, I feel compelled to violate your r00lz right off the bat, because it makes little sense to me to present awesome things in complete silence.

The Doug Short "double bubble, toil and trouble" chart is very interesting ... just remember that according to the bubble-blowers at the Fed, rampant asset price inflation is not really inflation. (I.e. they're still wringing their hands over 'failure of the economy to meet our 2% inflation target. Clearly we must funnel more free money and 0-intrest loans to the banks and financial speculators!')

The 2nd graph, of Napoleon's army dwindling away into the dust following his ill-fated invasion of Russia, is a genuine historical classic of charting. Too bad Hitler didn't have a copy hanging on his wall. Another example of 'I only want to see the data that support my pet preconceptions' myopia.
