PrimeNet Team: TeraPrime
Hello everyone, I am making a GIMPS team; if you are looking for a team to join and don't know which one, please join this one; we are looking for people with fairly good computers (At least 1.4GHz; minimum 2 cores, preferably 2) and want to either (a) do world record prime-finding, (b) trial factoring if your computer is more of a mid-level, or (c) both. Preferably your machine name ends in "Prime" to convention. I would love to have as many people participating as possible; the more the better! You don't need to run your PC 24/7 if you're not that dedicated, but hopefully you can (and do.)
If you have any ideas, suggestions, questions, comments, criticism or hate, please tell me by posting. :soap box: |
(b) trial factoring if your computer is more of a mid-level,
Hi, and welcome to the forum. I quoted the sentence above for TF is not a recommended use for CPUs. GPUs are so much more efficient that they are the resource of choice for TFing. I would suggest your team to make the (b) option P-1 factoring or, even better from the project point of view, DCs. But at the end of the day, the resources are yours, so you are obviously free to allocate them to whatever type of work you see fit. The good thing is having you on board and participating. Happy crunching! |
Thanks for the advice; I'm fairly new to Prime-finding, so if I make any stupid mistakes, please explain them to me slowly. Also, how do I take advantage of my GPU? I mean, It's a fairly good one (Dual Radeon), not top of the line but not bad either, but currently I'm just doing CPU jobs.
