I think I started to perform some testing late last night. When I got up this morning I saw I needed two more regions of sieving and forgot I was still in test mode. |

This is exactly the same polynomial as before! The E value appears different because you're integrating over a different area, but all the coefficients and the skew are the same. |
Also I'm a little confused that you call it c174_something when the number is of 176 digits in length

Kosta's first polynomial (in http://mersenneforum.org/showpost.php?p=487728&postcount=1473 ) has the correct 176-digit integer, the second one (in http://mersenneforum.org/showpost.php?p=487750&postcount=1476 ) has the two digits missing.

A C172 is on the border of 14e and 15e- which queue did you mean this for? If 14e, you really should test-sieve those parameters to see how low the yield is. Something like 134M and/or 200M on 32LP would work much much better.
Edit- you suggested a sieve range, so you did test-sieve? Can you share yields? Perhaps there's value in low lim's that I haven't explored. |
Well, the 14e queue is starving, while the 15e queue is lengthy, so I'd target 14e
|
I prefer 14e queue because 15e very big ATM and the number is suitable for 14e. My estimates based on previous tasks and of course I did test-sieve.
total yield: 2605, q=20002007 (0.23488 sec/rel) total yield: 2388, q=60002003 (0.24639 sec/rel) total yield: 2108, q=100002011 (0.25450 sec/rel) total yield: 2124, q=140002019 (0.30660 sec/rel) total yield: 1861, q=180002021 (0.31807 sec/rel)
So, 20-200M should give us ~200M raw relations. |
By looking at FreeDC stats the majority of the 14e/15e wus are done by the gridcoin pools and Syracuse University, which I think they have selected all types of wu's on the preferences page. If the 14e dries they will crunch 15e but I suppose Syracuse University has a few cores only dedicated to 14e but only Greg can help us there.
To clear my point, let the 14e queue dry and the long 15e queue will be picked up with 30k wu's/day. |
swellman: I notice you've been submitting a number of polynomials with rlim=34000000. I've generally been changing this to 33500000, because that's just under a power of two whilst 34000000 is just over, and I have a vague belief that just under a power of two makes some bit of the sieving process slightly faster.

That was probably me. I was under the impression lim should be just over a power of two. Hmm, 2^25 = 33554432. |

Sounds good. I will hold my numbers until a later date. Most are GNFS which needs a poly. This will give me time to be better prepared. |

Oops. And sure enough, the WU generation job ran in the meantime, so there are now WUs for a very large range of q values :'(
Protection, or at least warning, against a likely extra zero was on the wish list for the crunching management page rework, but nobody had and has time to do that. |
Picking up an old message by posting an interesting stats. By letting 16e queue dry (I've stopped chasing Greg) it's clear the majority of the clients can run and process the 15e wus at a rate of 90k-100k per day. There was a peak of 120k when some friends were running Formula Boinc. |

Fellow people with access to the nfs@home queues: if you have updated the range on a number which is marked as 'check range', could you remove the mark?

Something looks wrong - the bit size for my C171_M17_k43 job increased from 30 to 31, at least that’s what is displayed on the 14e status page. Further, the poly that I proposed for this job is not on the NFS server, rather it appears to be that proposed by RichD one post later. Is this a cut and paste error? Or am I totally misunderstanding what happens behind the curtain? |

Odd Sieving Behavior
Ignore post - see updated poly here
IGNORED AS INSTRUCTED C243_139_70 seems ready to sieve on 15e, but I had a crash using the more recent ggnfs sievers on a Window 7 machine. Using the older sievers worked flawlessly. I do not understand why this is happening, maybe it's only a problem with Windows? The original crash happened using Yafu, but it was a ggnfs-arg(sp?) crash. Attempting to sieve it directly with the ggnfs executable quickly (< 1 minute) resulted in exit with zero yield though there was no crash reported. Experienced the same behavior with the related polynomial c5/c1 = 16/35. Obviously if this is going to be a problem with BOINC or NFS@Home, then it should not be queued. I can attempt to find another polynomial entirely, say a sextic, though they be kind of ugly for this composite.
