I had hoped that some extra sieving I scheduled right before you reserved this might help build a smaller matrix. Were you able to take advantage of that sieving, or did you download the relations before it completed?

As for your last comment (in bold): That's true of course; does that somehow explain to you why this is such a hard job? I confess it doesn't help me in that regard.
