Indeed, why can't we return to the halcyon days of yore, when children could work incredibly dangerous jobs for 14 hours a day for nearly nothing, when we had [STRIKE]indentured servitude[/STRIKE] company towns, when the skies were blackened with the dust of [STRIKE]unfettered pollution[/STRIKE] freedom!

Truly, we have regressed.
WASHINGTON — Margaret Hamburg, the former commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, conspired to conceal harmful side effects of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ)’s antibiotic drug Levaquin, according to a lawsuit filed by six patients, Qmed reported this morning.

The lawsuit alleges that Hamburg suppressed information about the drug’s side effects so her husband, Peter Brown, co-chief executive officer of Renaissance Technologies, a hedge fund, could profit from Johnson & Johnson stock. Attorney Larry Klayman, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the plaintiffs, speculated Brown earned approximately $500 million in Johnson & Johnson stock due to his wife’s suppression of information, according to a statement on his website. In addition to Hamburg, her husband and Johnson & Johnson are listed as defendants.
To paraphrase Robert Duvall's famous line in the film Apocalypse Now, I love the smell of holy free-market capitalism™ in the morning -- it smells like ... victory.

Halcyon? Capitalism's infancy was difficult, but it made progress possible.

Don't throw out the concept (love your (tm), don't I get half?) just because
the law has up to now allowed capitalism to be abused.

From the Silly Picture thread, relating to this picture posted by Mike (Xyzzy). Since your agreement is indeed unlikely to survive there, I'm taking the opportunity to preserve it here.

Rights Stuff

Thought I'd try a different new approach to defending capitalism.

What are our rights?

Instead of asking questions, as I frequently do to start a topic,
or answering my own questions, which ditto,
I'll ask FOR QUESTIONS.

That cuts me out from further starting my own thread.

How are they a threat to capitalism?
And these clowns are indeed a threat [STRIKE]to[/STRIKE] of capitalism.
Fixed That For You.

Aren't they merely acting within their rights?

The guy on the left is a threat because of people like the guy on the right.
The guy on the right is a threat to freedom, hence to capitalism.

Capitalism is the implementation of freedom. Fascism is the end of freedom.
