Well, this is a wayward earth-vexing waste of resources!
This exponent was completed by someone else inexplicably. Was it a mistake? Can the somebody please explain?
http://www.mersenne.org/report_exponent/?exp_lo=33440027&full=1 This was assigned 66.3 days ago to my computer tansen. It has communicated regularly with Primenet updating its completion date. Finally completed today. But the exponent was already verified. :furious: |
This exponent was poached inexplicably.
Read the assignment rules page: http://www.mersenne.org/thresholds/ Cat 1 DCLL recycles after 60 days. Not sure if this was originally handed out as a cat 2 or not. |
Cat 1 DCLL recycles after 60 days.
Garo's exponent was 34.4M, that is currently cat 3 territory with 240 days to complete. It either expired prematurely due to a bug or it was poached. |
Are you sure? The linked exponent is 33440027, which is currently cat 1...
It is indeed but the assigment rules for a CAT 2 assignment say "Assignments are recycled when the exponent moves into the first category and the assignment is more than 100 days old."

So the question remains: Was this M33440027 a cat 2 or cat 1 when it was assigned 66 days ago?
|
On October 14, the exponents below 33519000 were cat 1.

It seems For Research has some explaining to do.

:judge:
For Research=chalsall if I am not mistaken. EDIT: Not accusing him of anything, I'm sure he has a good explanation of what's going on. |
Doesn't seem that there is any explaining to do. Exponent expired at 60 days as it was cat 1. They continued to work on it after the expiration.

Post #5 says otherwise. It was Cat 2 when assigned, giving the user 100 days to complete before recycling even though it moved to Cat 1. |
It was cat 1. There is another possible bug -- should this computer have been assigned a cat 1 exponent?
|
Thanks George for clarifying. I understand now why it was reassigned. I checked the logs and this computer runs on autopilot. It sent in results on Sep 19 and Oct 6 which is probably why it got a Cat 1. But since then it returned results on Nov 9 and Dec 24 and was recently assigned another Cat 1. What are the rules for a computer falling out of the category?
Also is it possible to exclude individual computers from receiving Cat 1? I have some computers that are somewhat erratic and may miss the 60 day deadline but still manage to finish exponents at a decent enough rate. PS: Apologies to Chris (For Research). Amending top post to reflect that. |
Also is it possible to display assignment summary on the exponent status page? That would avoid misunderstandings like this.

Good point. Thanks. I'll make that change right away. Also it might be an idea to not assign Cat1 to any computer that has hours per day set to 12 or less. Not strictly necessary though and may break other people's setup.

You can also change the setting not to receive Cat 1 if you log in with your account here:

Not my fault! This was assigned to one of my machines by Primenet at 2014-12-19 00:24:41 (Assignment key B6DDAF377F88920ACB07239ABF7DD9AF). It then completed 2014-12-20 20:05:35. As in, this was not a "poaching" situation. |

The right way not to receive CAT 1 assignments but CAT 2is to play with the "Number of days of work to queue up" as sdbardwick already pointed out. Then in my post #25 I went under the assumption the the assignment moved from CAT 2 to CAT 1 which was false as pointed out by George. This is because when the new rules were introduced I made sure NOT to get CAT 1 assignments, only CAT 2 by using the "Number of days of work to queue up" parameter and I mistakenly assumed Garo had done the same because otherwise he would not be cross at having an assignment reassigned after 60 days... Well, don't. They may all need TC sooner or later  |
:deadhorse: Keep beating! It (the thread) ain't dead, yet!
(Just sayin'; it's been explained and acknowledged.) |
