The file size limitations for most image attachments have been relaxed a bit because we have been allocated more hard drive space. The maximum dimensions for uploads has been upped as well.

Obviously, this means we need more crazy and bizarre pictures posted!

So, when do us peons get to post more than one picture at a time without unnecessary Photoshop merging?

The avatars are still limited to 100x100, 9.8 [STRIKE]m/s[SUP]2[/SUP][/STRIKE] kB only...

[QUOTE]The avatars are still limited to 100x100, 9.8 [STRIKE]m/s[SUP]2[/SUP][/STRIKE] kB only...[/QUOTE]The 100×100 pixel constraint will remain because (unfortunately) the forum software does not scale stuff to fit a screen. Things get pretty tight on a mobile screen, for example.

We bumped the avatar file size up to 16KiB. Is that enough?

Now if only we could insert images hosted elsewhere :)

[QUOTE]Now if only we could insert images hosted elsewhere :)[/QUOTE]Our reasoning for not allowing remotely-hosted images/files:

1) They tend to disappear as the years go by.
2) They can be changed after-the-fact to inject something weird or perverse, either accidentally or maliciously.
3) They can be super huge and most people will not use thumbnails.

Since we have the storage to host the images on this forum, we think our approach solves everything.

If there is an issue we have overlooked please let us know!

Just tried to upload a 2MB animated gif and it didn't like me.

I can remember when 2MB would take 20 minutes to upload. Now it takes 0.1 seconds. :paul:

We have set (reasonable?) file size restrictions.

Some of those animated GIFs can get really big!
