For documentation:
Be sure to read all the .txt files, especially readme and undoc. Local.txt and prime.txt are configuration files, also whatsnew and stress.txt. Prime.log is pretty self-explanatory, as are results.txt and worktodo.txt. For specific questions, try Googling 'site: mersenneforum.org [search terms]' EDIT: That was a bit strong for the "Start Here" section, Chris. |
Please forgive me for this, but there is a reason I asked to have my mod privs removed.
Who in the fscking h**l, after posting only four (4) messages, should have any influence?

wow someone has an attitude....don't forget somewhere at one point you only had 4 post. i think your reply was both uncalled for and abusive. if you have issues with getting stuff due to fact you had or do have mod privs and do not at this point want to have them anymore i think there is a place other then posting a reply as such to someone elses post being condescending and berating them for only having 4 post at present .... take issue to the sites IT or head. and for your information i am attempting to understand some of the prime95 settings a bit better as there is little or no real documentation
Something is very fishy here. Notice that the comment has been edited. Not only that, but by a different user. Chris has been a forum moderator for a very long time, and seeing his username in blue instead of red is actually a bit strange. Why he would lose his privileges or why he would ask to have them removed is beyond me. The message quote and chalsall's actual post have absolutely nothing to do with each other which is part of the reason I'm a bit confused. I am going to assume that there is some massive misunderstanding. (could it be that due to some graphical bug it looked like you had mod privileges?) It is clear that Chris saw something making it seem like you had a significant amount of leverage despite being a very new user. I would never imagine that he would attack you for having few posts. I've never seen that happen here and I would never expect to. |
Some things are indeed not documented at all, such as the CPUHours= setting in local.txt. I don't blame a new person for having questions.

Paul
I don't see that you changed the substance of the post, unless Chris was responding to your edit when he said, "Please forgive me for this, but there is a reason I asked to have my mod privs removed." Even then, the response seems pretty much the same. Maybe I am missing something. |

This is along the lines of what I was thinking, too. Chris is under a lot of stress at the moment. He doesn't feel like he has enough time to commit himself properly to a SuperMod position so he has asked for a suspension. That is part of the reason - certainly not an excuse - for the hostilities. I still chalk the four posts complaint up to a misunderstanding. |

You have a lot to learn. What is shared in PM's stays in PMs (or, at least, should). But, since this is now "out"... Yes, I specifically asked for a suspension. I have a lot to do -- I am under a great deal of stress. My apologies for posting messages which "push the envelope", and/or might cause offense. I still don't see where the 4-post user said or did anything that could be construed as rude, improper, or arrogant in any way. Certainly I see no exercise of any supposed "influence". Seems like the poster is just asking a few basic questions, which we have handled here thousands of times before.
Always, always, always remember: This forum is explicitly named, endorsed, and trusted by George in the Prime95 software as the *official* support forum for Prime95. We're not helping the project if we turn away 10, 100, or maybe a million GHz-days from a potential contributor because they are greeted by the supposed "help" forum in a pugilistic manner. Better to avoid this section of the forums on a bad day. |

Agreed. This is why I asked to have my "red" removed. |
@TheShark.
Don't give up yet. The very high majority of folks here love to discuss and help. Occasionally people are in a bad mood and you get a crap answer. Overtime you will learn who's answers are worth reading and caring about. Chalsall's answers usually fall in the middle. However in some areas of the project he is a true master of details, design and insight. For now just shrug it off and keep learning. The forum/project has two high level categories of members. People interested in the actual mathematics/coding of algorithms and people interested in their own computer's hardware capabilities. Some people love both. Good luck. |
:-)
yup we all have good and bad days i know that for sure . on disability because of exposure to chemicals at work affected my lung badly but i deal with it and yes i get a crappy attitude at times.
my overall question was just what some stats were in the cpu info on prime net but thanks to everyone i am seeing more as to how they are set up and the data listed. have a feeling mine is not a system normally seen on prime ( or very few out there ) for cpu (amd fx4170) (asrock 970extreme4) motherboard combo so its still trying to figure out my cpu loading if i read the posted replies proper. the rolling average keeps going up every time the prime software communicates and sends expected completion date i must say tho i do like this combo i built it works decent overall and wasn't all that expensive to build. i listed the full basics of system in an earlier post and btw i am jack of all trades ( typical vermonter), but worked in various manufacturing and support positions over 45 years in work force. tool and die maker by trade, trained also in welding, computer basic information systems, robotics and laser technologies.carried certifications while i was working in iso9001, icp, asq/cqi, six sigma, depro |
