Meanwhile, they've now used 6 days on their 33rd move. Are they seriously considering anything other than 33.Nxc8?
EDIT: I suppose 33.Nb5 Be5 34.Nc5+ is possible on reconsideration. Maybe that is actually their best chance of winning, because 33.Nxc8 leaves opposite coloured bishops on the board, a drawing tendency even when we are the exchange down since subsequent winning attempts by them would often require giving back the exchange for a pawn or two. EDIT2: No, that line fails because after 33.Nb5 Be5 34.Nc5+ Kd8 we are threatening both ..Bxb8 and ..Bd4+, so they'd have to repeat position with 35.Ne6+ and send this knight to f8 instead where it's doing nothing useful. Sorry for this thinking aloud. I've got a good feeling about our position, anyway. We have every chance to draw, I think. The time they're taking for this 33rd move is encouraging on that score too. |
