Move 32

We have one move: Kd7. Do we need to delay?

Brian-E 2014-06-19 07:19

I say move immediately.

richs 2014-06-19 14:22

And we have moved.... I just awoke for work.

henryzz 2014-06-19 14:57

Maybe we will have to think next move. This one they could have done for us.

richs 2014-06-19 15:07

I've been looking at this position and I think we still have play although we will be down a rook to a bishop. I'll post my analysis later when I get to the office.

henryzz 2014-06-19 15:46

I think it fair to say that we are behind. Where did we go wrong? Any particular move?

paulunderwood 2014-06-19 15:54

I would say our Nb3, allowing the pin of White's Rb1.

Like Rich, I think we still have play, especially if we cam promote our a-pawn, at the same time not allowing our other two pawns to give way to White's opposite pawns' advances.

Brian-E 2014-06-19 22:34

I think we've been worse since 16...c4. We didn't anticipate the weaknesses of our queenside pawns after their simple reply 17.d4.

In my opinion 28...Nb3 was a fine move, keeping activity at the cost of the exchange, when the alternative 28...Ndc6 would have been too passive and would have inevitably succumbed to the pawn weaknesses and space disadvantage.

For now I think we have reasonable drawing chances based on the fact that there are few pawns left on the board and our pieces are now active.

Work commitments prevented me from posting today. Will do so later or tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay, here is the continuation line I looked at in detail:

33. Nxc8 Kxe6
34. Rb6+ Ke5
35. Rb5+ Kf6
36. Nxe7 Kxe7
37. Bd5 g5
38. Kg2 Kd6
Sorry for the delay, here is the continuation line I looked at in detail:

33. Nxc8 Kxe6
34. Rb6+ Ke5
35. Rb5+ Kf6
36. Nxe7 Kxe7
37. Bd5 g5
38. Kg2 Kd6
Also 34...Kf7 35.Rb7 Bd4+ 36.Kh1 Bc5 37.Bd5+ Kf6 looks quite adequate to me. And in your line, if they give back the exchange for a pawn by 34...Ke5 35.Nxe7 Bd4+ 36.Kh1 Bxb6 37.Nxg6+ we have excellent drawing chances in the minor pieces ending because of the few pawns on the board and the opposite coloured bishops.
