I regret to inform you all that I will soon be ceasing all participation in mersenneforum.org because of moderators' failure to rein in Ernst Meyer's deceptions and character assassinations. I had been puzzled by Mike's (Xyzzy's) tolerance of Ernst's bad behavior, until Mike revealed that he and Ernst were friends/buddies.

Mike's use of [URL]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethic_of_reciprocity[/URL] as a code of conduct for Soap Box seemed fine to me until I realized that when an individual such as Ernst does not share the likes and dislikes of being treated that most other participants share, the "Golden Rule" does not serve to constrain his anti-social or predatory behavior. That is the flaw in the Golden Rule: it depends upon a common shared set of likes and dislikes about treatment. When some individuals do not share that set, additional constraints are needed, but our administrator has not yet been willing to add such.

I had hoped to stay long enough to finish this game, but that now seems unlikely. However, our collective decisions have established what should now prove to be a game-winning set of advantages.

It occurs to me that I need to remind you of why Ernst is doing this. (He didn't always behave this way toward me.)

It started about three years ago during the run-up to the 2012 elections. In Ernst's Mystery Economic Theater thread, I began posting factual corrections to false or misleading statements that Ernst posted. Ernst's response was not to honestly admit his mistakes, but to start attacking me and using belittling remarks about me to try to discredit my credibility. He's continued that ever since, [I]except for a few weeks after other moderators took strong action against him[/I].

Ernst is a skilled verbal manipulator and employer of deceptive rhetoric, and seems to have no qualms about employing these abilities.

Xyzzy's failure to take effective measures to stop Ernst's verbal deceptions and character assassination has only encouraged Ernst to continue this behavior.

Since he can get away with it with me, Ernst will not hesitate to employ the same tactics against anyone else who in the future dares to expose Ernst's factual errors in political discussion or to explain Ernst's manipulative behavior to other mersenneforum.org members.

Let me point out that Ernst has found that he can't intimidate me into being silent about his tricks, but what he has been able to successfully do is mis-lead a few other mersenneforum.org members (notably, Chalsall) to stop giving me credibility for my criticisms, and even to join in with Ernst's campaign to belittle me.

I've explained to Mike (Xyzzy) that he has to take effective action to curb Ernst's behavior if he wants to achieve the vision he (Mike) has expressed to me of how he wants mersenneforum.org to develop.

Either he (Mike) continues to have a forum where Ernst can bully anyone with impunity, or he takes effective action to curb the bad behavior of his close friend and buddy, Ernst. So far, he's always chosen the former.

I'm hoping that my latest PMs to Mike will persuade Mike to change his mind. If they don't, I'm leaving here but will participate in other forums where the administrator and moderator are willing to take action to curb bad behavior such as Ernst's.

BTW, any of you are free to send PM's to Mike expressing your opinion about whether Ernst should be allowed to continue his bullying behavior.

I will affirm my opinion again that you are taking it too hard, not only on chess, but in the politics and global warming discussion too.
I don't share your view on climate change, neither Ernest's and I don't give a shit about American politics behind of the fact they influence the exchange rate for my forex trading. I made a rule for myself not to intervene in politics-related and global warming related threads. I may or may not have competency, this is not important, and I don't give a shit what people who I don't know and they don't know me may believe about my competencies.
I don't get it how a guy which you don't know in real life can upset you in any way. I appreciate you and Ernst for things you do and say, each one in his niche/domain. I appreciate everyone here, and have a bit to learn from each of the forum participants. I will feel sorry to see you going, for a such childish nonsense. Honestly.
And no, it is not about losing you from the team, because the teams will be anyhow "scrambled" when and if a new game starts, and we will not be in the same team again, they will not let us get away with two wins in a row.
I just want to give you a reason to think more about this.

1. His long-term attack on me started when I exposed factual errors and logic flaws in his political claims in a Mystery Economic Theatre thread. As long as his attack is allowed to go unpunished, it will dissuade others from exposing Ernst's factual errors and logic flaws in political threads, lest they become subject to such attacks. That's bad for the future of this forum.

Ernst is a very skilled manipulator, and he will use all his skills to try to prevent his deceptions from being exposed, as far as possible -- even to the extent of vicious lying about his critics. If he's not stopped from doing it to me, this forum will suffer.

2. As long as his long-term attack is allowed to continue, Ernst will deceive other forum participants about my reputation and falsely lead them to disregard my factually-correct criticisms and exposures of Ernst's patterns of deceit and manipulation. (This is not to claim that all my criticisms are correct; of course I make occasional errors. But I'm honest in admitting my errors when brought to my attention; Ernst doesn't honestly admit his errors -- or his deceptions, once exposed, either.)
