Can't open .tiff image
I have a .tiff image which is 576 MB in size, but when I try to open it with the GNOME image viewer it fails, and I get the error message "Dimensions of TIFF image too large".
I have 8 GB of memory, which I thought would be enough. How can I view this image? I can't put any more RAM in my computer. Edit: I ended up opening the image using Windows Image Viewer. |

For others to test, here is a big image: http://lroc.sese.asu.edu/data/pr/tiff/wac_nearside.tif

Try to edit it. The Gnu Image Manipulation Program (The GIMP -- a free Photoshop equivalent) (not GIMPS) is your friend. |
Irfanview is my go to viewer. Free and with some minor editing features. It will also live (reasonably) well on a thumb drive if needed.

ACDSee and Snagit are my friends, for fast and simple jobs. They are not free, although. For serious things I use Corel. Never liked (and I am dumb using it) Photoshop.
For others to test, here is a big image: http://lroc.sese.asu.edu/data/pr/tiff/wac_nearside.tif
That was the exact image that I was unable to open with Linux. I've had it for ages in my 'Space Pictures' folder, but until recently I didn't have enough memory, and all previous attempts to open it failed.
When I tried using the Windows Image Viewer provided with Windows 7, I was finally able to open it, and more importantly, to zoom in to have a close-up look at it. |
