The US women's soccer team has won its second consecutive World Cup, defeating The Netherlands 2-0.
The Netherlands' goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal blocked four shots in the first half, keeping the US scoreless in the first half for the only time in this year's tournament. When the game ended, the crowd chanted, [i]Equal Pay! Equal Pay! The camera on my telescope died a couple of weeks ago. I had already thought about replacing it as it was designed in the last millennium and purchased 18 years ago; consequently, despite being solid and reliable, it was also rather limiting.
New kit was ordered from Starlight Xpress which was shipped here to La Palma amazingly quickly. First light is as in the image attached. It shows part of the bookshelf in the observatory and was taken with a 0.01s exposure through a cruddy Canon lens that happened to be within grabbing distance. I'm a happy bunny! |

Couldn't resist, again... I've had three factors in a bit level many times before, but not bunched as close together as this time.

We never got 2 factors in the same bitlevel
Can it be because we always stop after the first factor is found? |

Hehe, yes. I'm running mfaktc with [C]StopAfterFactor=0[/C]. And, well, it also helps that I'm mostly doing work in the >1G range, lots of very fast exponents. |

Attaching the new kit (AO/Maxi filter wheel with OAG/TRIUS-PRO814 /Lodestar2) has shown up several ways in which the original set-up was at its limits. USB cable length, for instance, worked with kit 20 years old but doesn't with newer and higher-bandwidth devices. The amount of back focus appears to be just about inadequate; a Barlow may be necessary. TL;DR: the observatory is not yet back in operation. On the bright side, the Odroid, which ewmayer sold me recently, appears to be an excellent device and I've high hopes for it driving the Meade 25cm Schmidt-Newtonian on a LX75 mount. It is also a very good way of discovering whether Linux software such as KStars/Ekos/INDI can take over from the Windoze-7 (itself reaching end of life this next January) software exemplified by Maxim-DL, Lesve Dome and TheSky which are presently in use. |
On my wife last working day she was offered season tickets for Bletchley Park. We went there last Sunday to visit the infrastructure and for the live jazz concert whilst making picnic.
Despite having read a couple of books on the Enigma subject, also majority of my readings are about WWII, I never realised I would be impacted emotionally just by been there and going through each Hut, the mansion house, etc. I’m really fortune my country has always been neutral regretting being the escape route to Brazil, Argentina and other South American countries. Anyway, plans are to go BP every 2 weeks to keep exploring it, really looking forward to next visit. BTW, I usually don’t take picture of my visits since I want to take the most of my visits and memorise every little bit. Also there are more than 15 different books on sale there and as such just don’t know which one to buy! |
