Happy with my wife in Cambridge for her birthday. First stop for an Italian express coffee and then to the botanic garden.

Competent people can use any unit they like. I still get under 5.65 technically. |
Good News, Everyone!
In the past couple of years I was diagnosed with "low grade" prostate cancer. Gleason 6, for those familiar with this subject. I have had two biopsies to establish this. I am in a program called Active Surveillance. This uses regular PSA tests (prostate specific antigen), to track the condition. Normal is considered <= 4.0. My history has run a range over the years.

9/12/12: 2.9
8/14/14: 4.9
7/25/17: 6.3
4/28/17: 4.99
12/6/17: 6.10
3/8/18: 5.96
8/22/18: 4.34
The latest result is the best in quite a while. Consequently, I am not currently lined up for another biopsy. YAY! :w00t: The possible PSA reduction trend is encouraging, to say the least. |

That is very good news! :tu: It sounds like your doctor(s) are handling this appropriately. There have been recent discussions arguing that active surveillance without hasty intervention is the best path. This also applies to women and breast cancer. Going "under the knife" tends to be very traumatic to an organism. And, thus, surgery to remove a cancerous growth might actually shorten life expectancy. |
The first thing the doctor told me was, "The only real cure is radical prostatectomy. Radiation should only be a follow-up is surgery doesn't succeed fully." Radiation produces scarring which makes surgery difficult. Chemo is only used to fight metastasis.
The surgery proceeds from 6(!) incisions. This doc has robotic surgery in his resume, AKA Computer Assisted, or Minimally Invasive. I hope not to be facing that prospect for quite some time, if future results look as good, or even better than this one. |
Took over 4 years but my Prius has 100,000Km.
Lifetime average of 50MPG or 5.66L/100Km (Highway/City/Summer/Winter combined)
Speaking of driving, I'm going on a 2,000 mile road trip soon and will return next Tuesday. The average fatality rate in America is 1.2 deaths per 100 million miles, so I have a 1 in ~42,000 chance of dying on the road. I'm also working on a first-time LL test in the 84M range, which should be complete by next Tuesday. According to Prime 95, the chance of it being prime is about 1 in 630,000. So, it looks like my chances of being killed on my road trip are 15 times greater than my chances of coming back to discover that my computer has found a new Mersenne prime. I know that this is the "Happy Me" thread, but this is somewhat depressing. |
