Happy but not yet...No Network Adapter???
 

I just got my hands on 2 free i5-3570K.
However Windows says they do not have a Network Adapter.

When I look in side the case where the network cable plugs in I see a small silver box; a couple centimeters to a side labelled "Foxconn". It is either part of the MB or plugged into it or just laying on it. I didn't look that close.

Anyone have experience with this Foxconn device?

Make sure the network adapter is "Enabled" in BIOS; also see if device manager lists something without a valid driver.

After 13 night shifts in a row I have a "free shift".
So, I decided to sleep nearly 20 hours without a break. :smile:

Might just be the driver.
Troubleshooter said I needed Device Drivers for all the following but none could be installed; I suspect because I do not have an Internet connection to download them.
- Ethernet Controller
- SM Bus Controller
- USB Controller
- PCI Simple Communications controller
- PCI Serial Port

Seems like a bit of a catch 22.

So I could download them to a memory stick if I can find out the specifics for the devices.

Not this PC came wiped and I installed it from a Window 7 disk from about 6 years ago.
It does not seem to have the device drivers on it.

What I would do (that is, might not be best or quickest):
1. Examine motherboard to see if it can be identified (might even be a Foxconn MB) and go to MB maker's website and download drivers or verify specifications for chipset and network adapter, or
2. Try to identify chipset version (Intel H61 for example) and go to Intel website and download chipset drivers and also a couple of network adapter drivers, or
3. Try to identify network chip used if not Intel - probably Realtek ( [url]http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/[/url] ) and get networking functional so Windows Update has a shot at identifying the missing drivers.

Was a HP 8300 PC. Their website had the driver I needed.

Who can easily tell me MAX RAM specs for this PC

I want to supplement OR replace the RAM.
But it makes no sense to buy RAM faster than this CPU/MB can support.
So, what is the fastest RAM it supports?
Where do I look to find out for myself from this build?

Also I understand that the RAM needs to be balanced (dual channel).
Do I correctly assume that 1 8GB stick on one side and 2x4GB sticks on the other side is still balanced?

Can anyone give me quick answers?

[LIST][*]Slots Qty 2[*] Empty Slots 1[/LIST][/code]So you could add another 4GB stick of the same brand/speed, but that doesn't guarantee that it will work in Dual-Channel. Buying a matched set of 2 modules (2x4GB for instance) will work almost always.

Check the BIOS to see if memory overclocking is possible (it usually [B]isn't[/B] on HP/Dell business models), so you're probably limited to DDR3-1600

Yes, do this. Buy a matched set of 2x4GB DDR3-1600.

If you can find a kit of dual-rank modules you'll get about 10% more performance, though I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Thanks all....if I read this correctly it really does NOT support faster RAM (maybe 1866 from the Crucial link) so I won't waste money on RAM not supported.

My plan is to move all 4 existing 2GB sticks to 1 PC.

I have in my possession an 8GB and a 4GB from another factory built PC. I assume they match.
I plan to buy another matching 4GB and place 8 and 2X4 in the other PC.
