This evening Linda and I came back from the drive-in to find the two little chicks shivering together on the concrete stairs again.

But Linda had a great idea about the chicks... She produced a hard plastic cat carrying case within which we placed the chicks, some food and water, some new blankets which didn't smell of cats upon which they could sleep, and some thermal packs.

The chicks ate and drank (and then shat) within the confined space, and then went to sleep almost immediately while entirely safe....

First good snow of the season is (finally) happening now :smile:

So, Linda bought an oven (at great expense) here in Bim, but it wouldn't be warranted unless the sellers installed it.

The stupid idiots who installed it didn't realize that this was a European oven, and thus wired one live wire from the feed to the ground wire of the oven, and then wired another live wire to another wire.

Here's a hint... When trying to make ~220V from ~110V, you don't connect the appliance's ground to a hot.

You instead connect the appliances' hot and neutral to the two presented phases. And you KEEP THE FUCKING GROUND AT GROUND.

Sorry for yelling, and swearing.

But this could have caused loss of life. Thank goodness I was the first to take the unexpected 110V short to earth.

Killed the circuit (used a radio to check while at the panel.) Decide to check with a meter before pulling out the screwdriver. Checked the first outlet, 0V between ground & hot, hot & neutral, and neutral & ground. Opened things up and checked the terminals on the sides of the outlet, all dead. But the outlet was not screwed to a ground wire. Decide to check the outlet on the opposite side of the wall. Looks like the ground is floating at 13VAC. Checked the third outlet, same thing. Swell. Not going to monkey around with it while I am the only person in the building. Have taken a leaky 110V circuit from my head to feet before. Really don't want to get zapped again.

120 volt is relatively safe. I've been zapped numerous times. I don't touch anything higher.
