What to do, what to do?
I have access to about a dozen dual-core Pentiums with 2GB RAM apiece. I was wondering what type of assignment I should ask for assuming that they are temporary machines (maybe a month?) and I will be able to check them no more than once per week?
Thanks in advance! -J |
I bet with 2 cores per worker, those machiens could easily do an LL in a month, though you might find an easier time scheduling DCs (as well as slightly higher efficiency as they'd be 1/core).
Neither of them take much memory, and they are still most efficiently done on cpus. |

My advice: DC'ing. We are currently over-powered with P-1'ing, and LL'ing might take too long. |
"Pentium" What?? Pentium IIII, Haswell Pentium, ??
EDIT: Or just give us the name of the cpu. |

EDIT: Or just give us the name of the cpu.[/QUOTE] They must be at least Pentium D, the successor to PIV that introduced dual cores to the Pentium line. As such, those machines should still be fast enough to do LL, but it may take a couple months per test depending on just what type of Pentium it is. |

Agreed. |
2 Pentium Dual E2200 @ 2.2 GHz and
1 Core2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0 GHz were added today. Hopefully I'll get to the others Thursday. DC it is, 2 assignments that are scheduled done on Feb 14 and 4 due March 5 atm. The other E2200 is still doing TF to low depth to satisfy my need for frequent results :) |

Mid-range graphics cards from that era (2008) will still spank a CPU core at TF. |

So we are no longer short on people doing P-1 factoring? If that's the case, I'll probably switch my quad-core Ivy Bridge machine back to "what makes sense." |
