It's been a year
Unfortunately, it's time to change the opening line of the mersenne.org homepage...
"On January 25th, prolific GIMPS contributor Dr. Curtis Cooper discovered the 48th known Mersenne prime..." That'd be January 25th, 2013.... |
I agree.
[rant] And in general I think that ALL dates should clearly state the full four digit year and spell the month name. Then there is no possibility of confusion about endianness. [/rant] |
Considering that there has been no front-page-worthy news for the past one year, maybe a post pimping GPU72 can go up inviting participants with GPUs to contribute some much needed TF?

Countup since the prime was found on January 25th 2013 at 5:30:26 pm CST (23:30:26 UTC):

That would be cool, and potentially useful. Or, at the very least, a link from mersenne.org over to gpu72.com would be appreciated. Right now the only way most people discover GPU'ing is to stumble across it here on the forums. Several people have commented that they didn't know about GPU72 for months or even years, and then bring a reasonably powerful GPU to the effort. |

There are also some broken links on the main page:
"a 17,425,170 digit number." "a mammoth 12,978,189 digit number," "for the $100,000 award" I'm not sure if you'll decide to fix the last one as it is part of an old news story. (Also, it contains an amusing 404 message.) Regarding the first two, they used to (in previous years) contain an abbreviated version of the numbers (For M(57885161) it was the first 28,485 digits and last 28,500 digits. For M(43112609) it was the first 28,473 digits and last 28,500 digits.), together with links to download the full numbers in certain formats. Not the most valuable information if you ask me. |

I assume they've been fixed (The original links still appear in my comment). |
