Looking for MAC GPU programmers
Hi all,
GIMPS, FermatSearch and DoubleMersennes projects are in strong need of GPU programs that run on MAC platforms. In detail, we have Linux and Windows source code for mmff, mfaktc, CuLu, CUDAP-1 and clLU, but still no executable for MAC. Is anybody out there volunteering to port these programs (especially the factoring ones) to OSX? any help will be greatly appreciated, and the work done will be credited on the related websites. Thank you! Luigi |

It would be great, thank you Mark! Luigi |

I need links to the source and my wife needs to give me the time to work on it. |
clLucas source code is located at /cllucas in this forum, clFFT here:
mfakto is here. Frankly, I think almost all people with GPU's will use Windows or Linux. (imo) |
I have a MacBook Pro that has an AMD Radeon HD 6770M GPU. It's not a real powerful GPU, and the CPU already heats up the laptop quite a bit running Prime95. So I'm not sure how much I'm willing to let the GPU crunch on GIMPS work.
I have done a little experimenting with programming the GPU with OpenCL using Xcode. But I'm not sure it's worth it to me to put much time into trying to port mfakto or other GIMPS software. |

(imo)
Luigi, After looking at the Macs, I tend to agree with kracker. Except for the Mac Pro, they ( the iMac ) seem like they might be prone to overheating, or am I just paranoid? Due to Steve Job's intense dislike of fans, the desktop models have always been under cooled & somewhat prone to overheating. Does anyone actually run on Macs, or is the desire just to have the Mac versions of the programs for inclusiveness? Having said all that, I might be able to get some time on a friend's new iMac to compile these programs. He uses it for web & app development. Marv |

I have now been provided with an executable for mfaktc which seems to be running fine on my GTX 570 on my MacPro. There is still one minor issue that I need to have answered, but I am now a much happier bunny. It seems to be running at about 360 ghz/day
