WHY out of the entire university did only Davieddy get banned?!
Can someone please tell me why Davieddy got banned? WHAT did he do WRONG?! Did he post something that you don't allow (nudity, conception-related stuff, etc.)? Please give me full details about it. If you can't tell me here, PM me.

I'll pretend like that wasn't a actual question.
Made my day though. |
I'm just curious. I hope someone will give me a reason why.

Taking this as a serious question... He's not banned. He's just under continuous moderation. There's a difference. (And this was only after the Forum bent over backwards to not have to do this.) Sometimes David has useful things to contribute. Sadly, not often. It all comes down to the signal-to-noise ratio -- too much noise is detrimental to the community. It is similar to why the "Mods" spend so much time dealing with people and 'Bots who would like nothing better than to spam you with links to advertisements.... Edit: Ah, I drilled down a little. You are correct -- David has been banned for a short period of time. Probably because he tried to post something which a super-mod found inappropriate (wasn't me, Gov). Interestingly, other than David and spammers, this action is almost never taken. |
Hmm. IS he banned again? My impression is that he has had at least a few "vacations" from the forum. It probably has to do with persistent provocation of many different people, often with circular or self-contradictory arguments. He was one of the people who harassed a major GPU72 contributor to the point that he took his substantial resources to the BOINC world, I believe, rather than put up with the disturbing atmosphere.
I'm not sure what the most recent episode might have been, but I know that some of the Super Mods get quite put out with him from time to time. |

Of course, though my saying it may be totally divorced from reality. ¿Quien sabe? |
Actually, he was banned for rude insults, specifically (remember: this is a family friendly forum), and for turning any discussion he enters into a mudfight. People actually leave the forum because they don't like swimming in mud. Or they don't even bother entering. (If you enter a club and the first thing you see is a broken bottle flying out, you'd probably move along.)
Why don't we stick to a general rule: before posting, try your post IRL, verbally on three different people. If out of three tries you will get your nose broken twice, then don't post. |

I would be banned in a nanosecond if I posted some of the stuff that gets said around here.

Right. But that's why I put if and not iff. It doesn't work both ways. Even under this arbitrarily set bar, there's a lot of grey area, for example "what to do if while trying the post on three people, one only gets slapped once (not twice)".
There are easily constructed cases of the exceptions to almost any rule: e.g. if one would claim that even gently slapping some other individual's buttocks was always an unacceptable behavior (and an automatic sexual harassment lawsuit), then some doctors would not be able to do their job
e.g. while delivering babies. Not to mention some other socially awkward situations these highly trained professionals find themselves in, regularly
! But we can probably agree that the same is most likely inappropriate if one is not a doctor, but, say, a mayor of San Diego. |
Lol I had to laugh when I saw the title of this thread. I'm just a youngster around here and I already kind of didn't like him. I find him to be a very harassing kind of person. Tried to pick one too many fights would be my diagnostic.
