Calling all 64-bit Linux sievers!
To finish the 10M770 in this grant period, the 64-bit Linux 16e v5 sieving speed needs to triple for the next couple of months.
If you have a 64-bit linux machine free, please consider contributing to the sieving. If you are contributing using 64-bit linux computers, consider changing their "location" in the host details screen linked from http://escatter11.fullerton.edu/nfs/hosts_user.php to a currently unused one, then setting that location to get only lasieve5f workunits in your NFS@Home Preferences at http://escatter11.fullerton.edu/nfs/prefs.php?subset=project. Finally, let other potential contributors know that we can use their help for the next two months. Thanks! |
Create a challenge. SETI.USA has been warned but they are running on another front until they reach 100M.

It would be nice to have some progress report for 16e v5 sieving, similar to the one here: http://escatter11.fullerton.edu/nfs/crunching.php. I would find a status bar of some sort stimulating, because now it is just you who knows how much work needs to be done.

Greg,
Mumps reply: "I should be here shortly. Still finishing off about a days worth of Sudoku and I'll start sliding over then." Means that 16e v5 results completed will triple. Carlos |
How much memory does lasieve5f need? Would 1Gb per core be enough?
And where can I find instructions for setting it up? Chris |
How much memory does lasieve5f need? Would 1Gb per core be enough?
And where can I find instructions for setting it up? Chris
No. To leave room for day-to-day processes, I recommend 1.5 GB/core minimum, 2 GB/core preferred. And 5f only works on Linux and FreeBSD. Just enable it and perhaps disable others in your NFS@Home preferences at http://escatter11.fullerton.edu/nfs/prefs.php?subset=project |
I have never played with BOINC, but I answered Greg's call for more 16e v5 sievers and brought some resources to bear on NFS@Home. 10 cores isn't much but I figured every little bit helps.
Then I looked up the user Mumps mentioned by Carlos. Wow! I'm not even a flea on that rhino. Anyway, I've been bitten by the BOINC bug. In moderation of course. |

Then I looked up the user Mumps mentioned by Carlos. Wow! I'm not even a flea on that rhino.
Mumps can easily double the current NFS@Home boinc points output. I remember when SETI.USA was going after the 100M milestones at NFS@Home Mumps was doing by himself a daily ~1.3M boinc points corresponding to a daily 9k-10k wu's. Carlos |
Greg,
How much further will you go on lasieve5f, q=1700M? Carlos |
Planning to 1800M, then backing up to 1073M down.
|
Thank you Greg. Another question, what's the grant period to queue 10M770?
We are talking about ~700k wu's still to crunch so tell me when will your grant period finish. I will pass this info to several teams. Carlos |
