C205 poly -- please ignore one of the above
Although the poly in message 1240 has a different E than the one in message 1239, it also has a non-optimal skew. Both polys are effectively the same, please ignore one of them if they make it to test-sieving.

My C200 efforts halted
After numerous outstanding polys found to date by others, and my own efforts yielding poorly, I’ve halted my search after running c5=1 to 110K. I found nothing even close to a feasible poly.
That said, I will be happy to restart from c5=110k if still needed for C200. The low end c5’s sometimes yield nice scores but seemingly not so much at this sized composite. For what it’s worth, I’ve stumbled on a nice balance for the search recipe - stage_1_norm/stage_2_norm = 5%/6% of max values. Gives nice yield at good speed on my old/slow hardware. YMMV. Does anyone want assistance with C205? Give me a range and I’ll run it. |
Sean-
How about starting at 8M? I'm about done with 1-2M and will continue to 3M. Rich has 3-5M covered (or was it 4-6M?) and is likely to continue beyond that. I may give CADO another run on deg 6 for this C205; I am not yet convinced that deg 5 is superior. I think we've done Kurt & co a favor with the C200 polys, but this C205 deserves a *lot* of poly select. My search recipe is to divide default stage 1 norm by 10 to 12, while the stage 2 norm can be divided by 30 for smaller jobs; for something this size I experimented to find a stage 2 norm that produced 40-60 hits per day. I run root-opt every 2-3 days. I believe on these large jobs stage 1 norm should not be set so tightly that msieve stops searching a subset of the range. |
