Yeah, did anyone ever find out what happened to Bill?
I think as long as we have any interest, let's keep the sequences we've touched, especially since they're all getting beyond the point where they're easy individual projects. (I'm particularly nostalgic about 4788 since we did hit so many milestones with it....) I'll start some ECM work on all of them, since I'm currently stalled on all mine while I wait for my current NFS job to finish.
I don't think we ever managed to contact Bill. A copy of his scripts would be useful even if he is too busy. Does anyone have a script that will update the index/size listings on the reservations thread? Adding the driver back would be nice now we don't have dubslow's page. I am pretty certain someone used a script for that in the pre-Dubslow days. |

As mentioned here, I try to update my pages once a week including a tool for download containing all open seqs <1M and some lists to generate from. |

It is the first post of the reservations thread I am talking about. Currently a lot of the sequences don't have size/iteration information and on many of the ones that do it is hopelessly out of date. If the size/iteration is unnecessary because of your pages then I can remove them. It is nice to have the information available filtered for reserved sequences though. |
That is mainly what I said in post #2 above. Good to have an official confirmation for it.
Do you know if the c135 is GNFS ready? Perhaps it only needs 4500 @ 11e6 to make it ready. It might be just as easy for an individual (with i7 or likeness) to knock out the GNFS instead of trying to coordinate a team sieving project. I believe it wouldn't be much more than a half a week. (Maybe 4-5 days with an i5.) I can get to it in a couple days after I finish my ECM run on the c150 from Seq 3408. Which brings up another item. Should I release 3408 at that point so we can devote more resources to 3366? |
I vote you not release 3408. There seems sufficient interest in both sequences, and there's no harm in having two that can be advanced when composites are small while pausing one to focus on a large team sieve when needed.

It seems like an earlier post may have been inferring to also keep Seq. 3408 without explicitly stating it.
How about this approach? We keep 3408 until it gets a nasty driver because it is currently meandering about. When I first posted, Find Another Sequence was just edging out Continue 3408. Now they are in a dead heat. My last message to Christophe stated to keep the sequence assigned to me (or the forum) for a few more days, weeks, etc until I/we release it. So it will be OK to continue this one for awhile. Hint: There will be a post in the Msieve sub-forum for a poly for the c150 in a couple days. |
I started the poly search this morning, then Ed saved us all a lot of time.
Thanks, EdH! |
