More views of Snowden's past

I post this only for the sake of discussion. I have not delved into it personally. Still, I have to endorse the question; Who and What is this guy?

By "this guy", you mean the author of the article, I guess? Indeed, who or what is he? And how can he know for sure that Edward Snowden and the author of some inane remarks in chat rooms on Ars Technica are one and the same? No-one could possibly know that, now, could they?:innocent:

If by "this guy" you mean the author of the chat room messages, then you're a step ahead of me.

Not a guy:
Articles by: T. Steelman

Oops, right. I've never been sure how you address a high priestess, but "hi guy" might not go down too well.

I expect Kieren was referring to the participant in the chat room, now that I think about it. And I rather doubt that it was the same Edward Snowden, though you never know.

Yahoo wins Prism court-papers battle: Details of the official justification for the US National Security Agency's wide-ranging Prism surveillance programme look set to be revealed.
Earlier this month, Yahoo filed papers with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (Fisc), seeking permission to publicise the documents it had filed in the original case and the government's response. The Fisc decides whether official applications to carry out surveillance should go ahead.

Yahoo took the legal action to show how vehemently it had objected to government requests to hand over data.

In addition, it said, the transcript of the 2008 case would reveal more about how the US government had justified its wide-ranging surveillance plan known as Prism.

In a statement, Yahoo said the release of the documents would "contribute constructively to the ongoing public discussion around online privacy".
Thanks, Brian, for injecting logic in place of assumption. I did, in fact, mean Snowden, not the article's author. I also took it without further inquiry that the chat room denizen and Snowden are the same person. However, you are correct that it is not (immediately) known who is who. Presumably, someone with enough motivation and resources (the NSA, perhaps) could verify the identity of the chat room poster, but those proofs are not offered in the article.

The cops are tracking my car—and yours

Here is a somewhat related item which I noticed while reading another story from Ars Technica.

Maybe the link was posted before, I did not follow the topic, and honestly I don't give a damn to who and what the "big brother" is listening. If you conscience is clear, then you have nothing to fear about. This might be a bit surprising for people who know I am coming from a former communist country, and being educated not to trust my pals... (they usually were spying for the oppressive forces ). But well, the current link attracted me from the... math point of view. I am sure if they want, they can link any of us to some so called terrorist in three steps. I am still thinking about it...
