Own a piece of math history, for free!

We have a few of these buttons to give away. They were kindly donated to us by Curtis Cooper.

This will be the third time that he has donated buttons to the forum.

http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=5498
http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=6421

We probably do not have enough buttons for everyone in the world, so we will be running this operation sort of like a lottery.

We need you to send a PM to us with your complete address. It is very important that your address is formatted in whatever international format that is appropriate.

If your name is "pulled from the hat" the button will be shipped to you, wherever you live, for free.

If you live anywhere other than the USA the button will be listed on the customs form as a gift with a value of one USD.

There are some special rules/exceptions:

Certain people within the number theory community are sent buttons automatically. Some of these people do not participate on this forum but we can always hope that they decide to!

If you have the previous two buttons, take a picture of them together and send us the picture (xyzzy@mersenneforum.org) and you are guaranteed a third button. (You must send us this picture by the end of April 2013!)

Each super mod has been assigned special "gifting power" and have chosen certain people to send buttons to.
Unlike previous button deals, we will not be mailing out all of them at once. This operation will take two or three months to complete, mainly because our resident forum assistants do not have opposable digits.

Please use this thread for general reminiscing and button discussion.

I have only one previous buttons but I would neitherway like to have another, I PM'ed some days ago but received no reply. The button I have is on my fathers house, when I get there I can take a picture of it if it is necesary. Would like to know if there is any chance of getting this button, it would be an awesome surprise.

Two thiefes entered my house two weeks ago and stealed everything including my computer that was running gimps (it was always on), I can prove that because my ip camera took pictures of them as I attach here where you can see them stealing my computer.

My gimps username is dsilvestre, if you can see my statistics, you can see how it was constantly factoring (for years) until they stole it on 22 April.
Thanks and sorry for the bad news.

All private messages have been processed and are on the list.

Once Troll3 feels up to it she can start filling out envelopes again. Apparently filling all of the customs forms out has given her tendinitis or something.

You might notice that the envelopes the buttons are shipped in are the self-sealing type. We have found out that, "just to be sure", troll4 licked them all. He is currently under observation after he began exhibiting nausea, projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea.

Batch 2, #37 safely arrived to Thailand.

A lot of happiness here around, caused by the fact that the trolls did not forget the fact that our former button was damaged by the shipment, so they inserted an identical copy of the former button in the shipment with the current button too. Both of the buttons are now in good condition, I would say perfect, if not for some small scratches caused by the fact that they were together in the same envelope. Well, if I would own a shipping company, then I won't employ any of the trolls there , but hey, the buttons look wonderful, and for the long way they traveled, they ARE perfect

Thanks a lot!

Final batch #3 has arrived! Postmarked May 13th, arrived sometime on or before the 17th (we only visit the post office on Fridays). There was also the lovely surprise of another green 10th anniversary button...which I can only assume is a base-11 celebration of next month's milestone...:geek:

I was thinking how amazing it has been for a school the size of UCM to end up getting this kind of worldwide exposure. If not for GIMPS, probably none of us would even give the school a second thought. So the lesson for the day is to get your school/university/company the worldwide recognition it didn't even know that it deserved, by borging all of your entity's computers for GIMPS!

I do have to share what a friend of mine said when I showed him the button (no offense to UCM or Curtis Cooper, though I hope this gives them a laugh). He saw the mule on the button, and suggested a motto for Curtis Cooper: "UCM/GIMPS. We find the big-ass primes."
