How many folk in this world own/have access to an AVX computer?
What fraction of them would enjoy the "lottery" of finding the world record prime, contribute to a famous distributing project and enjoy a lively associated forum? My "useless computer" (as kindly described by LaurV) has a single Core2 running at 2GHz 24/7, and accordingly turns in 700 GHz-Days per year. This gives me a 0.0015% chance of finding a prime, but anyway contributes to the collective effort to find one. I find it mildly surprising that this puts me in the top 1500 LL producers. D |

Christ all Mighty! How much do you pay for electricity? I spent BDS $595 (~USD $300) for a GTX 560, and can pump out ~200 GHz-days per day. Are you slow, or stupid? |

Well, 3 are IB so much more efficient than... And... what the hell, $300 for a 560? EDIT: Ok, to answer the OP's question I have 4 computers that have AVX. |

You know perfectly well that measuring TF in (CPU-based) Ghz-Days is completely obsolete. I walk slowly, say and do idiotic things and spend a considerable amount of time under the influence. However, I can still be pretty quick off the mark when it comes to cutting folk down to size where necessary. D |

You clearly don't remember my post describing why I spent USD $300 to buy a 2GB 560. Those of us who don't live in the "lands of plenty" learn to manage our exposure. |

How much do you pay for electricity? Are you slow, or stupid?
Dude. Every participant is welcome. |

D
2 (Twin sisters: Ivy and Sandy) And for the record I also have 4 in or below your league ... 2 are borged and I'll take what I can get; two are mine but they have "Heritage Value". |

My 6-year-old AMD Athlon has run GIMPS for its entire 6 year lifetime, running about 25% of the time, and it has just passed 700 GHz days, producing a steady 120 GHz days per year. Am I slow or stupid? |
Are you slow, or stupid?
That was uncalled for. IMAO anyway.

Surely the untapped potential for GIMPS participation must be vast. D |
