I hope you are referring to primes rather than years
That was my thought at first, too, especially since IIRC he's 19. It's actually clear that he means primes, on a second reading of his post. |

In all seriousness, consider that Colquitt and Welsh discovered M110503 25 years ago. We're now verifying a prime with an exponent likely in the 50-60 million range. So the size of a "testable" candidate has increased roughly 500-fold in 25 years. It only needs to increase 60-fold from here in order to feasibly run billion-digit tests. Even with Moore's Law slowing down (and is it really?), 60-fold over another 25 years doesn't seem like too farfetched a goal.
One slight oversight there: Computing clout required goes as exponent[SUP]3[/SUP] D |
Hopefully in my case it will be at least 5, and if all goes well, 10 or more
yeah if I beat the current record for age I might be able to get to 10 if I'm lucky. |
I just finished my Prime95 AVX double check and it also reports PRIME! Hopefully one of the non-Prime95 runs will finish soon for extra-extra confirmation.

Hip! Hip!

It's more than mere 'extra' - it's zeroth-order independent-software confirmation. |

And independent hardware, in the case of CuLu  Anyone want to run Glucas on a PowerPC? Or even an ARM? |
Glucas will take weeks.
Jeff was (and maybe still is) tempted to run it off-line. Pending availability of an appropriate server... for a month! |
Jerry's CUDALucas run should have finished by now.
