Black's 15th move
Well... I'm pretty sure absolutely none of us expected that in any way.

yeah I didn't expect there to be another 14 in the list either:
1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. g3 g6 4. Bg2 Bg7 5. f4 d6 6. d3 e6 7. Nf3 Nge7 8. Be3 Nd4 9. O-O O-O 10. Rb1 b6 11. Ne2 Nxf3+ 12. Bxf3 Bb7 13. g4 f5 14. g5 e5 14. c3
interesting thing is that I don't see a pawn we can capture without them at least getting equal pieces from us. edit: except maybe the f pawn I might see something there. nevermind. |
This is a very interesting move they made. It seems they are afraid to beat the pawns in the center too. I think we have to start exchanging them. But how to start, it is not clear yet. Or maybe play Rc8, here I am a bit influenced by the Anand's game, but the move is not bad. Sooner or later we have to take that column, if they keep the b column. Still thinking.

Hm... we can be either passive (15...Rc8, 15...Rf7, 15...Qd7 - with this we might be able to force a draw by eternal chess if he moves h4,).
Rc8 seems to be the best "passive" move and let him do what he did not like to do this turn (take the pawns). We will stay good if he takes first. He has the check Qb3, but this helps us to push d5. After 15...Rc8, 16.Qb3+ d5, 17.exd5 Bxd5, 18.Bxd5+ Nxd5 he has to retreat Bd2 to keep the pawn in sight, and we already stay much better, his king is much too open, it has nothing to protect it. Or active (15...exf4, 15...fxe4, 15...d5) and simplify the board. 15...exf4 is the worst, it helps him place his knight in a very good, strategic position. 15...d5 might be a very nice move, but the position become very complicate, I don't terrible like d5, it gives him many possibilities to chose, and this fact seems not to be so good, even if the move seems to be the best. 15...fxe4, well, this I like most. After 16.dxe4 d5, 17.exd5 Bxd5, 18. Bxd5+ Nxd5, we might be able to force at least a draw if he moves Qb3, Qb7, on the king's side (eternal check on g/h columns,). Of course I am joking, but the move is good. So, my picks: 15...fxe4 (active version, my first pick) or 15...Rc8 (passive version, my second pick) |

A very good move for us seems also to be 15...c4, and he can't take any of the pawns without getting a bit rumpled from it. 16.exf5 Nxf5, 17.Bc1 (we can take his bishop or not) 16.dxc4 fxe4, 17.Bg4 Nf5 (and most probably he is forced to take the horse, if he move Bd2 we push, we still have a better position in any case) 16.fxe5 dxe5, 17.dxc4 fxe4 (again we have more threats, he need to retreat two pieces, or play like previous variant, or exchange the queens). In all cases, we exchange marginal pieces for his central pieces, or king side (guardian) pieces, weakening its king defense. We come in a small advantage in all versions. His best move seems to be not to take any pawns, and move 16.Ng3. In this case we can 16...fxe4 17.Bxe4 d5, and we keep the center AND the sente (as he must retreat the bishop, and we get one more move, but no other advantage in this version, his king is well guarded). Is anyone analyzing this? Or it is only me? Am I talking alone, like the TV set? (or radio, do you have this expression in English?) |

Aren't we running out of time?
Should we play 15...fxe4? After we exchange everything in the middle, the board remains empty, and this may be a draw, if they don't make any mistakes. None of us can do too much about it, unless we find some trap and force them to fall into. [edit: but this is very difficult when more eyes are watching, you can easier cheat one player than four, into falling into some trap] Other opinions? Am I playing alone? |
Sorry, classes are distracting and a bit tiring.
I like d5. Why not play their game? I think it would be the most fun, even if it's probably not the "best" move. If not, then fxe4 is pretty solid. |

I don't especially dislike d5. The move is good, if not the best. The only objection was the fact that the position is getting complicate, and as I do the most of the analysis, I would like better a simple position . OTOH, complicating the board might be good for us, if we want to attract them in some trap. With d5, I think that they are forced to take it, all other moves are worse for them. We somehow discused in the past why is bad if they take e5 or especially f5. If they take d5, we retake with the horse, they have to retreat the bishop, best in d2, otherwise they lose the pawn and lose bad after. Then, after Bd2, what?
I will stay with fxe4, too. How about we flip a coin? Haha, is there any web site where we can meet and flip a coin together? BTW, what is the easiest way for some people which can only meet on the web, to "flip a coin" honestly, without anyone cheating the others? Like we join a chat room, or such. I know we can do this in some games (like puzzle pirates, we meet in an inn, join a playing board of spades, poker, whatever, and draw a card, if is red/black or odd/even, etc ) |

http://www.random.org/coins/ might work but it's not necessarily together. |
