Juggling

I am surprised I couldn't find an old discussion somewhere.

Has anyone advanced significantly beyond my simple 333?

Just 333 and one handed 22 here.

I have experimented doing 333 with some pretty weird stuff though. Ever tried juggling bananas or shoes?

I remember someone wrote to Over The Top (a single series TV show) offering to juggle "live babies"!

I read that BBC article too and found that there is also a good Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siteswap

Had to study the notation (we had no idea that such a thing exists!) to realize how to call the one we do. According with the wiki, a cascade would be called simple "3", there is no thing as "333". Also, "2" means "holding" a ball in your hand for a tempo. There is no throw. Therefore juggling two balls with a single hand would be called "40",(and NOT "22") to signal that the other hand is resting, i.e. to distinguish it from "4" which would be juggling 4 balls, each hand two different balls, without exchanging from one hand to the other. You can call it "42" if you juggle two balls with one hand and the other hand is holding one (or more) ball(s) without doing anything with them, and this is indeed used sometime to describe starting of other complicate tricks/movements.

So, the one we can do very fast (but I mean VERY fast) since we were 6 or 7 years old is "31", with variations like "5151" or even "717171", and we can add more balls (but the speed decrease exponentially). This means throwing always with right hand, catching it with the left, and passing it fast to the right hand, so the balls always describe a circle in the air, all balls the same circle. We can not do a simple "3" cascade (or how you call it, "333"), we may accidentally throw with the left hand but we are totally inapt to catch with the right hand. We tried and failed many times in the past so we gave up after a certain age... Even a "13" is difficult, we have to "compute" the next moves in our head... That is because what we always did was a "31".
