A move in form of a question?

Dubslow 2012-12-21 09:56
Is it being 11...Nxf3+ move?
Well no one's since complained, so yes, that is our move.

Brian-E 2012-12-21 22:01

It seems we all very quickly agreed on our reply: 12.Bxf3.
Nice use of the dead horse icons in the moves summary thread, Serge.

Both moves were practically [STRIKE]horsed[/STRIKE] forced. ;-)

Their move wasn't necessary. In fact there was quite possibly a better move*.

*This depends on how you measure this. I supposed the only real way of determining this is by solving chess for this position.

Batalov 2012-12-22 00:30

Ah, you ruined my [STRIKE]ever so subtle[/STRIKE] joke. =;-/

Hehe, I was the one calling for it, in our private forum I said "let's beat their horse first". And Serge then immediately sent me a PM with the content: "beating the horse: :deadhorse:" at which I am still laughing when I see it in context.

But in my language we "beat" the adversary's pieces, we do not "take" them. It was just poor English, and not intention to joke, but I like how it turned out.

Batalov 2012-12-22 09:57

In Russian, you can also say: "I eat your horse", "I eat your elephant" (same in German, i.e. Bishop), "I eat your shallop" (rook = shallop = ладья). "I can even eat you queen!" :blech:

Brian-E 2012-12-22 10:35

In Dutch we hit pieces and pawns, rather like a swift clip round the ears. But we're too dignified for any continuous beating, and we certainly don't eat them afterwards. How barbaric!:ermm:
How barbaric!:ermm:
:tu: hahaha...

@Serge: We also use "eat", in fact iirc, this was the only formulation we used when we played chess during we were children, "I eat your pawn", etc. I totally forgot about it!

This conversation reminds me of wizard's chess.
