It is sickening that it has taken this long to begin to hold anyone accountable for these crimes. That the scope of the investigation is limited to 'secondary' participants, while leaving the 'hands on' monsters and those who controlled them untouched, is vastly worse.

Gah! That reminds me, I prepared a post on this 3 weeks ago, somehow it got misplaced in my offline-composition workspace, and I never got around to it. So, belatedly:

Opening Comments to the American Psychological Association (APA) Board of Directors Counterpunch
Reader comment:
If the Report is released on July 20th, there will be front-page articles in every major newspaper in this country and around the world on July 21st.

The headlines will read: “Report Finds APA Leadership Colluded With Bush Administration in Support of Torture.”

What will the subheading read: “Many named remain in leadership positions” or “APA removes tainted leadership in response to investigation”?

This is not a PR problem. This is a survival of the Association problem. And there is no good way to get through this.
In re. the latter 'problem', I suggest that any organization which is so clearly institutionally corrupt and beholden to power should not survive, period. "Ashcan of history (file under 'too disgraced to exist') and start afresh with a charter designed to prevent such malfeasance from ever happening again, by way of a deep commitment to transparency and institutional democracy" time.

Heartening to see this - though re. Obama and his typically shameless PR-op, I wish he'd do similarly for various wards of the US NatSec prison-industrial complex, like Chelsea Manning and inmates of a certain notorious prison the U.S. is operating in Cuba.

This article freaks us out because we would be in big trouble if our medications were stopped.
