no qxxxx and pxxxx intermediate files

The program doesn't make any intermediate files so it just restarts the exponent every time it opens. Help please.

Could you tell us what OS and version of the client you are running. It would also be useful to know userid in a "multiuser" system.

The only time I have personally come across that problem is when the file-system or disk were full, so check that as well.

Is there any messages in your logfiles ?

Is this your first test?
If not: How did the program behave before?

GP2 2003-12-13 22:09

It could be that you don't have write-permission for the directory in question. Are you running under Linux or under Windows (and what version of Windows?)... and what directory are the program files running from (C:\Program Files\Prime95\ ?). Are you running under an ordinary user account or an administrator account (root)?

Is the program able to write other files in the same directory? In particular, results.txt and prime.log

Could you post the content of your worktodo.ini file please.

How long have you left it running before you stop the client? What do you mean by starts again? Does it factor the the exponent, P1 factor it or go straight to the Lucas-Lehmer test. What does it show on your screen ?

Could you change the value of the following setting please: Options ==> Preferences ==> Minutes between disk-writes to something like 5 or 10. Does it change anything ?

Note that p... and q... files are only created when you are doing a Lucas-Lehmer test.

If you are doing P-1 or trial factoring, I believe it will create a m... file as an intermediate savefile.

If you stop and restart P-1 factoring or trial factoring, it might seem like it's starting again from the beginning (the messages don't provide feedback about progress), but in fact it's not. It picks up where it left off.

Can you let us know what your worktodo.ini file looks like (list its contents), and also are there any m... files in the same directory?

enz 2003-12-13 23:36

ooohhh I didnt know p-1 doesnt make p and q files. Yes there is an m... file. The readme is misleading, it says that p and q are for saving and m is for while it's working. I guess there's nothing wrong then.

Here's the worktodo.ini anyway...
Test=21851779,67,0

The zero in the "Test=21851779,67,0" indicates that you are still in the P-1 stage. If you use a fast computer ~2GHz, the P-1 will take a day, and the Lucas-Lehmer test, following the P-1, will take about two weeks.
