Wheres the walkthrough on using this?

test through primenet get error code 1002
test through primenet get error code 1002
...?

What are you doing? What is "this"? Generally walkthroughs are provided in some sort of "readme.txt" file -- give that a shot. Otherwise, you need to tell us what you're actually doing.

Uncwilly 2012-04-24 04:52

Please post more of the error message that you got.

NtheFace 2012-04-24 13:41

I open Prime 95.. Click Test.. "Use PrimeNet to get work" (checked).... Put user information in, click OK

Get
Cannot initialize FFT Code, errcode=1002
Number sent to gwsetup is too large for FFTs to handle
Worker Stopped

All across the board...

Running AMD FX-8120 3.4mhz(small oc) on asus Crosshair V Formula mobo, 16gb AMD Perfomance ram 1600

NtheFace 2012-04-24 14:02

Hmm might have solved the problem myself, how much ram should i associate to the test? I have 16gb of 1600 mhz

NtheFace 2012-04-24 14:06

I get the error

Cannot initialize FFT code, errcode=1002
Number sent to gwsetup is too large for the FFTs to handle
Worker Stopped

running AMD FX-8120 (small oc to 3.4mhz) on ASUS Crosshair Formula V mobo, 16gb AMD Performance DDR3 1600 ram

All I did was click on test... and connected to primenet to get work and clicked ok

Prime95 2012-04-24 14:25

This is a Bulldozer cpu?

You didn't say which version of prime95 you are using. Try versions 26.6 or 27.6.

NtheFace 2012-04-25 03:06

Yeah a Zambezi 3.1mhz... im running ver27.4 cant seem to find ver27.6

Prime95 2012-04-25 03:22
Yeah a Zambezi 3.1mhz... im running ver27.4 cant seem to find ver27.6
I've been uploading 27.6 over the last 24 hours. Go to ftp://mersenne.org/gimps.

NtheFace 2012-04-25 03:42

yah tried to google search it.. ok downloaded it and ran, seems the problem was i wasnt allocating enough ram to the program so i was getting that 1002 error.

so i have 16gb how much ram should i allocate to the program im just using this to see how hot my cpu gets underload

Nah, my bug, 27.4 didn't run on Bulldozer.

Run, in-place FFTs which will use little memory. I think that torture test will run the hottest.

Dubslow 2012-04-25 03:54

If you're just stress testing, then when you first ran the program, there should have been a button for "just stress testing". You don't need to do anything with PrimeNet or similar to stress test.

As for RAM, if there isn't a bug, the default 8MB should be enough; you got errors with 27.4 because the Bulldozer CPUs have proven very difficult to get running properly; 27.6 should fix this. Delete all files except the 27.6 .exe in your Prime95 folder, and run 27.6, and click "just stress testing". The default memory will be fine. Edit: Whoops cross post :/

NtheFace 2012-04-25 03:57

Ahh ok... yah its up and running fine... didnt choose a stress test, i guess thats what im looking for. Thanks for the help and info

NtheFace 2012-04-25 04:03

How long should i run the torture test?

Dubslow 2012-04-25 04:33

Read stress.txt (or Google it).
Q) How long should I run the torture test?

A) I recommend running it for somewhere between 6 and 24 hours.
The program has been known to fail only after several hours and in
some cases several weeks of operation. In most cases though, it will
fail within a few minutes on a flaky machine.
chappy 2012-04-27 07:10

Or you could do a longer term (say 6-10 year) stress test on the machine by joining the project.

All the cool kids are doing it.
You can't get pregnant the first time you LL.
You want to fit in don't you?

I agree.
...that's a horrible way to advertise.
I think it's a cute gimmick. It may drive off the unwaveringly literal-minded, but how many of those would spend five years watching arithmetic computations, anyway?

I thought it was funny as well.

chappy 2012-04-30 02:46

I seem to have been proven wrong by the distinct lack of cool kids posting about this.

So peer pressure doesn't work for you guys?

How about we get a creepy clown, some big horses, and a variety of pop-culture icons to sing a theme song which implies that GIMPS will make you smarter, better looking, more attractive to the opposite sex, and give you the ability to detect humor without emoticons on the interwebs.

...I'm having trouble rhyming with 2 to the n^th minus one. I'll have to get back to you guys.

2 to the nth power minus one, just set and forget, and it'll get the job done, all of this poem is just to have fun, with no competition I think I have won.

Perhaps that is the type of activity the truly unwaveringly literal-minded would choose to do.

I am a Gimpster for the bounty
And a I drive for large primes.
Searchin' in the cloud for a faster iteration time.

I send the factors on the wire.
I send the no-factors with a whine.
And pray the Mersenne.org server
Is still online.

I know I need a small vacation.
But I can't pay the power too.
And that old Dell 2650
Won't ever finish the stage 2.

GTX 580 I need you more than want you.
And I want you for the iteration times.
And I pray the Mersenne.org server
Is still online....
