If you're just stress testing, then when you first ran the program, there should have been a button for "just stress testing". You don't need to do anything with PrimeNet or similar to stress test.
As for RAM, if there isn't a bug, the default 8MB should be enough; you got errors with 27.4 because the Bulldozer CPUs have proven very difficult to get running properly; 27.6 should fix this. Delete all files except the 27.6 .exe in your Prime95 folder, and run 27.6, and click "just stress testing". The default memory will be fine. Edit: Whoops cross post :/ |
Ahh ok... yah its up and running fine... didnt choose a stress test, i guess thats what im looking for. Thanks for the help and info

How long should i run the torture test?
|
Read stress.txt (or Google it).
Q) How long should I run the torture test? A) I recommend running it for somewhere between 6 and 24 hours. The program has been known to fail only after several hours and in some cases several weeks of operation. In most cases though, it will fail within a few minutes on a flaky machine.
|
Or you could do a longer term (say 6-10 year) stress test on the machine by joining the project.
All the cool kids are doing it. You can't get pregnant the first time you LL. You want to fit in don't you? |

I agree. |
...that's a horrible way to advertise.
I think it's a cute gimmick. It may drive off the unwaveringly literal-minded, but how many of those would spend five years watching arithmetic computations, anyway?

I thought it was funny as well. |
I seem to have been proven wrong by the distinct lack of cool kids posting about this.
So peer pressure doesn't work for you guys? How about we get a creepy clown, some big horses, and a variety of pop-culture icons to sing a theme song which implies that GIMPS will make you smarter, better looking, more attractive to the opposite sex, and give you the ability to detect humor without emoticons on the interwebs. ...I'm having trouble rhyming with 2 to the n^th minus one. I'll have to get back to you guys. |
