Just a small plea to the mods here, which I nevertheless want to soften with considerable praise and appreciation for your hard work and the way you all make sure this forum remains a friendly and interesting place to be...

Altering titles of threads can indeed be funny.

BUT... when the joke wears off (after a few days, I would suggest), could the titles be returned to things which reflect the threads' contents? That way we can all find old threads easily which we want to re-read.

Would be enormously appreciated.

However, the title now does indeed reflect the contents of the thread, so I claim it is an improvement.

Ah, of course, it's all coming back to me now.

I have to agree with you.

It was as the second line in your post gives it.

Now a confession:

I knew perfectly well that the title of this thread was especially vulnerable to being meddled with, given my implied criticism, so I tried to pre-empt any moderator attentions by making the title slightly thought-provoking already, intending to out-smart the mods so that they couldn't make it funnier. Almost immediately after I posted, the title was changed to what you write in the first line of your post. And I thought: hah! They're out of humorous ideas, can't think of anything clever to do with it. And I went to work. And only when I came home and read Paul's post did I realise that he had indeed out-smarted me and I just hadn't seen the point. Judging by how quickly the title was changed, that took him no effort at all.

As soon as I saw the word "reflects" I spotted the ambiguity and saw how to augment your explicit self-reference with an element of implicit self-reference merely by reflecting the title end-to-end.

Paul

(*) A good pun is its own reword.

Please change more thread titles! They are intellectually stimulating and a pile of fun!
