I'm running OpenSuSE 12.3 on the PC. lspci -nnk shows:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Atheros Communications Inc. AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet [1969:1091] (rev 10)
Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology Device [1458:e000]

Any suggestions as to why it won't work would be welcome.

Chris
I have a similar setup. Since you had it working at one time you only need to reload the driver. I have a folder called compat-wireless... From there I simply perform:
sudo make install
sudo modprobe alx
Thanks for the factMsieve patch. It fixed my problem which I thought I fat-fingered during an editing experience.
Also I suggested the following GNFS targets as test cases in the msieve choosing the best polynomial selection thread:
37^148+1
39^158+1
84^131-1

...Reserving one more while waiting to see what polys the GPUs find:
20^187-1

Chris

??? By SNFS ???

The exponent is divisible by 11. Use a reciprocal quintic.
Chris most likely meant "while waiting to see what polys the GPUs find" for the three gnfs-155s above.

Last one is starting LA, but have to keep the other machine busy.

Reserving:

93^109+1 c213
96^107-1 c182

That gets:
Warning:
You may or may not need to update your initramfs, you should if
any of the modules installed are part of your initramfs. To add
support for your distribution to do this automatically send a
patch against ./scripts/update-initramfs. If your distribution does not require this
send a patch against the '/usr/bin/lsb_release -i -s': openSUSE
tag for your distribution to avoid this warning.

make -C /lib/modules/3.7.10-1.1-desktop/build M=/root/compat-drivers-2013-03-04-u modules
make: *** /lib/modules/3.7.10-1.1-desktop/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [modules] Error 2
As I said I've given up until I have time to investigate further.

PS. Batalov is right about what I meant in the post Bob referred to.

RichD 2013-07-09 18:26

I wouldn't think you would have to re-make it. Just install and reload, since it was working before.

Oh well, when you have more time try searching for reload alx driver or reload alx module.

Last 2 are done.

Reserving:

96^107+1 c192
99^121-1 c179

(And with that, that'll be the end of a 4 year sweep through the first holes. Thanks to all who shortened the process by finishing off numbers ahead of me! Not too sure what I will be doing next, but I'll still be doing brent composites at least once in a while.)

chris2be8 2013-07-18 16:34

I need to keep the 3570 busy while my other 2 systems work on the GNFS polys. So reserving:

94^107-1 c202

If you would like to work on (Generalized) Cullen and Woodalls there are many within your capabilities and I'll be happy to assist you.

[shameless piling on]

There's also the xyyxf project. Lots of good composites needing to be factored.

cheap poly, cheap poly , ask for them in the thread. 150 to 170 digits.

Next work

Thanks guys for all the ideas and offers of help :tu:. (mostly non-selfserving )

Seriously though, I'll probably pay respects to the Cunningham Project next and then continue with one machine for brent composites and the other for whatever suits my fancy.

(And likewise, if anyone browsing here would like to contribute to this project and isn't sure of the whole process, feel free to ask myself or make a public post.)
