Around 15 of those (especially the really long ones) it might actually be worth obtaining the save file, either to let them (not the 60% guy, but the 2019 guy) get back to other stuff or save it for faster hardware. Partial credit would have to be hacked into the system.

Brian-E 2012-01-11 14:20

Yep, maybe we could hack the users' systems to get their save files. Clearly these users are in an unenviable position being saddled with these assignments so that they can't do other stuff, and it's appalling that the faster hardware is being starved of 100M digit tests.

Dubslow 2012-01-11 15:09

Just give them the option. I can't imagine too many people are willing to give up 25% of the job, but at the same time ETA 2019.

(I'd also point out that was ancillary to the main point, which is Woah. Test #2 in *knock on wood and cross my fingers* 4 months.

Batalov 2012-01-11 19:04

Without ECC, these tests make very little sense.
The ASUS_P6T7 worker (judging by the name) does make sense!

Dubslow,

Please explain exactly what harm will come to GIMPS if we do nothing but watch this situation, letting it work itself out without our intervention.

Dubslow 2012-01-11 21:09

Allow me to repeat myself: that was only an ancillary thought, not the point of the thread.

Uncwilly 2012-01-12 01:19

I just check, all of the exponents listed are at 77 bits or higher.
I just check, all of the exponents listed are at 77 bits or higher.
I looked at a handful, and there was considerable consistency in the names, with "Team Inspector" showing up in most of them. Most of them had the same person taking them through lots of the factoring levels. It made it seem to me that these exponents are being worked in a concerted and organized manner.

bcp19 2012-01-12 03:21

Weird, mine isn't on your list. 332216777, but it won't be done until next year unless I devote more cores to it.

I sorted it by worktype and only c/v'd the ones with a non-zero LL status. Weren't you in TF or P-1 or something? You did reserve the exp, right?

Edit: Got it.

Team_Inspector is 103 in TF top producers. I have yet to see any indication of Team_Inspector using GPU. This seems to be a project which started in late 2008. From samples I've looked at, LL's were handed out ~11-12/2011, but there are earlier assignments.

James Heinrich, Oliver, Chuck, and Luigi Morelli, as well as other persons, have contributed TF to some high levels. Early versions of mfaktc played a role, but many of these high level TF's seem to have been done on CPU's.

332209531 has been factored to 77, but has been dormant since 2009-11-30. I've seen factoring as high as 79, and various descriptions of P-1's. Many of these have widely spaced B1 and B2 values, but those with B1=B2 still have high TF levels.

This leads back to my earlier assertion that much of this block of 332M exponents are part of an organized effort.

yea, I set that machine to update every 7 days as it is the one that appcrashes when talking to primenet, so I prefer a weekly vice a daily crash. Though after reading George's suggestion, I may turn off communication and use the manual, IF, as I suspect, it will report all the work done since the last communication. I had stopped P-1's on it since they take 6-7 hours and I hated waking up to find the program crashed at 2am, but if this works, I could start them back up after the next exp completes.
