Considering how much the catenary looks like a parabola, I think we can give them a break (and Chrome thinks catenary is a typo).
(and Chrome thinks catenary is a typo).
(So does Firefox. What's a "cattery"? A "cattery" is the feline equivalent of what a "doggery" would be if "doggery" meant "kennel" instead of "cheap saloon".)

We have a reported security breach for Mastercard and Visa from a "remote processing facility" that exposed about 10 million card numbers and appears to be sufficient to allow duplication of cards. Visa and mastercard are treating this like they are holding up a dead mouse between thumb and forefinger and saying "this is somebody else's problem!"
http://krebsonsecurity.com/2012/03/mastercard-visa-warn-of-processor-breach/ Why do I suspect that as we become a cash-less society data breaches will become more common? On a different topic, there are odds makers giving 81% that Greece will exit the EU within 3 years. I think the rest of the EU is considering treating Greece like that dead mouse. DarJones |

My sister - not shy about displaying her political leanings - recently reminded me of an old quote from Rep. Barney Frank, which basically says: "Republicans believe that life begins at conception and ends at birth." (To be faiw, there is no wack of jokes of which Wep. Fwank is the butt, but on this issue I agwee with him 100%). |
Mish reveals a personal struggle he has been dealing with the past several years - makes it all the more amazing that he manages to continue to run (and grow) such a high-quality site:

I previously posted about Wisconsin school boards who "invested" in CDOs.
(history: "How A School Board In Wisconsin (And The NYC Subway System) Became Accidental Hedge Funds" http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20081103/0238422716.shtml) Recently, lawsuits filed by the boards have begun to be settled, with recovery of the boards' losses. Here's one about a $159 million recovery: "Kimberly schools recover losses in lawsuit settlement" http://www.postcrescent.com/article/20120320/APC0101/203200417/Kimberly-schools-recover-losses-lawsuit-settlement (Note that in addition to the $5 million payment, there's also a release of obligation to repay a $154 million loan.) Though this March 20 article says another lawsuit is still pending, I think that one has been settled since then, so that at least one board has had its entire $200 million losses reimbursed. |
I could blather about Krugman's paean to inflation in the New York Times today but can't quite work myself up about it.
Although this thread has been withering lately, I don't really want to see its' Friday humor and cynicism installments vanish,. So, for today, I offer this: $30,000 Watch Vanishes Up Church Leader’s Sleeve
Editors doctored a photograph on the church’s Web site of the leader, Patriarch Kirill I, extending a black sleeve where there once appeared to be a Breguet timepiece worth at least $30,000. The church might have gotten away with the ruse if it had not failed to also erase the watch’s reflection, which appeared in the photo on the highly glossed table where the patriarch was seated.
If the links are paywalled, chrome incognito mode might work. |
