A long dry spell

It's sure been a long time since I found a non P-1 factor; I looked back through my results on PrimeNet and the last one I found was on December 10. However, nothing can be done other than to keep searching.

Me it's the contrary, I just finished my P-1 dry spell... You found 7 factors in 116 attempts, I found 1 in 85!

Sigh

I found 2 P-1 back to back factors, which at the time, point me at like 2/5. At the same time I had ~150 exponents run 3 bit levels, so like ~450 bit levels, with one factor.

Well right now (if I am reading the charts right) the entire GPU project is:
P-1 = 117/2331 = 5%
LL-TF 410/38,477 = 1% (Counting each bit level total seperatly)
DC-TF = 125 / 12246 = 1% (Ditto)

Curious because the GIMPS Math page says it should be about 1.4% (1/69 to 1/72)

For tf via mfaktc, I find I need to reboot the PC at least once per week.

DC-TF assigned expos had lots of P-1 done on them (they are filtered already, we get assignments only from the bunch of the expos that survived P-1 testing to some limits). This is valid also for a part of LL-TF. And you should consider that not all users do all range 69-72. Mostly do 69-70, for example. So, nothing seems so curious.

What causes you to need a weekly reboot? I have never had any issues with mfaktc. The only problem I have ever encountered is with new Nvidia drivers that like to downclock; then I have to reboot to get back to full speed. But that hasn't happened for some time.

oswald 2011-12-23 23:27

Chuck,

I finally got around that down clocking by using nvidia inspector.

Right click on the show overclocking drop down and pick "Start Multi Display Power Saver." It is kind of a miss nomer for my use.

Now check off

run at windows startup
pick your gpu
select P0 for application that you select and/or P0 by CPU %usage.
If it's not happening anymore, well skip this post.

On the subject of dry spells, we haven't discovered a new Mersenne prime in ages...
