I was sure I posted about this guy a couple of years ago. Or maybe it was a different Soviet commander who decided not to launch WWIII?

Sure enough, here's the original message and your reply in the same thread. 2017 indeed.

I thought that was the standard for these type of posts. We are free to either open or not the link.

As with any posted URL, I encourage posters to please provide some minimal context for RIP-thread entries - believe it or not, some readers are wary of blindly clicking hyperlinks without a clue as to the nature of the linked material. It only takes a few seconds to convert a raw URL into a reasonably informative headline-with-hyperlink-style one.

An exception is if the URL in effect provides the headline. Ironically, among Uncwilly's handful of exemplars, only his own Cokie Roberts one has such a URL.

Shuping Wang
A whistleblower who revealed the spread of HIV and hepatitis C through contaminated blood in central China during the 1990s and was subsequently targeted by authorities has died, aged 59, while hiking in the US.

Dr Shuping Wang may have saved tens of thousands of lives when Chinese authorities began testing for the diseases at blood banks as a result of her campaigning. However, even after her recommendations were taken up, Wang faced intimidation as officials tried to cover up the public health crises.
This is sad news, but it may be a good sign, so we are still waiting for Iliescu. We bought the champagne already, long ago, and we are afraid it will become spoiled...
