Sorry, that one requires more than respectful silence or the chirping of metaphorical crickets. "Speak no ill of the newly dead" and similar are sentiments for apologists - I say good riddance to bad rubbish!
John McCain was a great American, even though he was not actually born there. It should be remembered too that he had a lot of impact on a lot of people’s lives, mostly at the nose-tips of Mark 80 series aerial bombs. Representatives from both the neo-Nazi movement in Ukraine and Al-quada in Syria stated today that they were very proud to have had their photographs taken with the late Senator as he helped arrange, finance, weapons, munitions and support to both movements. In a joint statement they said that he will be sorely missed.

It is regretted that a lot of Iranian men, women and children will now be able to sleep more soundly at night knowing that an ardent demander of bombing them has now fallen silent. The Jihadist group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (with the aid of a team of foreign specialists) has already issued a public statement that the false flag chemical attack being arranged in Idlib in the next coupla days will be done in his memory while the White Helmets have promised a performance worthy of a second Academy Award. Each of the eight chlorine tanks delivered to Idlib already will be marked with the name of a country that the late Senator helped destroy.
To that litany inflicted on the world by the near-bottom-of-his-Naval-Academy-class McCain who managed to nonetheless score an elite-flyboy spot due to his being ason and grandson of admirals and who basked in the fun of earning something on the order of one medal per hour of flying time up until he was shot down over Vietnam, I would add 2 non-war-related items to the long list of things he deserves to be vilified for:

- The Keating Five (not to be confused with the Jackson Five)
- Sarah "I can see those evil un-American Rooskie commies from my kitchen window in Alaska" Palin

To those who cite the one single non-execrable thing he was noted for, being anti-torture after his brutal imprisonment by the North Vietnamese (whose people he had, in all fairness, done his own fair share of 'torturing' from the air), I would remind that in 2006 McCain cut a deal with the Bush administration which helped it keep its Geneva-Conventions-pissing-on torture facility at Guantanamo Bay operating.
