Just remain single for most of your life and eat those raw eggs.
It helps to be short and female. I heard years ago of an electrical engineer who did a linear regression on life span and found a negative slope of 17 months per inch, within a broad range of heights (~4'10 to 7'). Mainly though, it's very important to choose well your grandparents, and stay out of war zones and substance abuse. |

Yes but if behind suicide is depression, as opposed to lets say blackmail, then there is IMHO some sort of medical reason for the death (indirectly of course). |

RIP to a genuine class act. An anecdote by way of illustration: "Tony Bourdain once broke bread with a Cambodian family whose father was maimed by a Kissinger bomb. I saw this episode in 2008. The family was gracious, humble, sharing and didn’t blame America. Bourdain was struck by their dignity and went on to apologize on behalf of his countrymen. He confessed to shame! When have you seen such thoughtfulness on US media? Went up in my estimation." And a collection of illustrative tweets, also courtesy of Naked Capitalism: o "An octogenarian columnist who’d written a review about a new Olive Garden in her small city was ripped to shreds by pretentious assholes in the food blogging community and beyond. Anthony Bourdain flew her to New York for a meal at Per Se. Then he wrote the forward [sic] to her book." o "I worked in restaurants for 7 years in college and when I was a struggling freelance writer. Anthony Bourdain once saw a busboy sexually harass me and he told my manager. I was vocal about the issue for weeks, and it wasn’t until he said something that they took it seriously." o “I am not a fan of people who abuse service staff. In fact, I find it intolerable. It’s an unpardonable sin as far as I’m concerned, taking out personal business or some other kind of dissatisfaction on a waiter or busboy.” ― Anthony Bourdain And a third NC link - note the correlation to parts of the country which are not "optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward", that is, those deplorables-filled flyover states: New CDC Study Shows Large Increase in Suicides Since 1999 |

You can read the actual March 7, 2012 review here. There is an old maxim, "De gustibus non est disputandum," meaning there is no disputing matters of taste. Apparently the columnist's detractors are unfamiliar with, or are willfully disregarding it. |
Anthony Bourdain flew her to New York for a meal at Per Se. Then he wrote the forward [sic] to her book.
That is both gracious and gallant. It is also a delectable finger in the eye of pretentious a-holes everywhere, in all walks of life.

Living well is the best revenge...
I sent Marilyn Hagerty a note of condolence on the loss of her friend. She sent me a reply, pointing out that her detractors way back then had put her on the map. Now that is gracious!
It brings to mind Julie Andrews' acceptance speech for her Academy Award for "Mary Poppins." She had been passed over for the role of Eliza Doolittle in the movie adaptation of "My Fair Lady," which came out the same year. She began, "Thank you, Mr. Warner." The audience howled with glee. |
