I agree. I tried once to contact him after his "departure" but received no response.

Well, every time when somebody posts in this thread, and it pops onto the frontpage, I have a hole in my stomach when I read , I wanted to post this in the past, like a silly joke, but I didn't dare... Now that you are talking about... I know he wouldn't mind this joke anyhow, one way or the other...

Sir Roger Bannister: First person to run a mile in under four minutes dies at 88
He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2011.

A statement from his family said: "Sir Roger Bannister, died peacefully in Oxford on 3 March, aged 88, surrounded by his family who were as loved by him, as he was loved by them.
Omg! He was an icon of athletics. I thought he was a very methodical and scientific kind of person,

His training towards the 4 minute mile was intense and yet paced.

After he had this record many others like John Landy run 4 minute miles,

Nowadays even highschoolers are able to run a 4 minute mile.

The record is now 3:43.13 but is a bit over what could ideally be.

If the mile was run as frequently as the 1500 meter is, the record would be around 0.6 seconds faster.

Do you have any current knowledge of davieddy?

He was Master of my college, Pembroke Oxford. He was quite a modest chap really, he let his life speak for itself. A total icon though.
