I am torn between putting this here, or in Unhappy Me, but here it is:
Two days ago, one of my favorite co-workers, who was also a long-time fixture in the Chicago Gay bar tending scene, took a bad fall down the outdoor back stairs at his home. He was able to call 911, but by the time they got him to the hospital he went immediately into ICU and on to life support.
Our CEO at the Center on Halsted let everybody know, to our great shock. Yesterday, December 1, 2016, Jimmy Bissonnette died of his injuries. I am a long way from absorbing and accepting that Jimmy is gone. He was not yet sixty years old.
This has been a very bad month for people who were really important to me dying. |
My sincere condolences; that kind of loss is indeed hard. To me, favorite co-workers seem to become a combination of family and friend. One doesn't usually get to choose either your family members or your co-workers, so there is often a family-like tie with co-workers. Yet there is choice involved when a co-worker becomes a friend. The best of both worlds, perhaps. My sympathies, for what its worth.

Norm
It is worth a lot. Thank you, Norm. Given that I work in a Gay Social Service Center, the We Are Family theme is strongly expressed. I have more connections to more people there than in any other job in my life. While most people there are really nice, and pleasant to work with, Jimmy was one of the fewer really special ones. At least, a loss like this sees people pulling together in response, giving rise to much hugging and mutual commiseration. |
2016-11-23 Andrew Sachs died, apparently news of which was delayed, and which seems to have been overlooked in this section.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0755133/ His portrayal of Manuel in Fawlty Towers was inspired. I hadn't realised that he had aspirations for a role in Doctor Who, which was apparently a major regret for him. I feel compelled to watch Doctor Who Shada 2003, which I hadn't previously known about. |

My thanks to you and Brian, Nick. Comfort and support make a lot of difference. :pals: |
