One of the greatest progressive rock keyboard players.
Too sad the way he ended his life.

The version that I am familiar with is part that version and part this: http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/bluegrass-songbook/005251.HTM

Seeger certainly skipped verses in this take. What I really wanted to post, but could not find online, is a version with Seeger, Ed McCurdy, Cisco Houston, and maybe a couple of others of that ilk.

I really like for the chorus to end with "...the dirty little coward, who shot Mr Howard has laid poor Jesse in his grave." "Mr Howard" is supposedly an alias of Jesse's.

The Billy Gashade line is kind of the mandatory ending in the varieties I know. However, while the lyrics linked below are pretty much down the line with me, they omit that one, as well as the bank robbery.

The version that I know has these bits in it that are important to the tale:

It was on a Saturday night when Jesse was at home
[STRIKE]Talking with his family brave,[/STRIKE] Don't remember if this is part
Robert Ford's pistol ball brought him tumbling from the wall,
And they laid Jesse in his grave.

"Talking with his family brave," is very common. Since his children are repeatedly referred to as "brave," it fits the story line.

Oscar, multiple Emmy, and multiple Golden Globe winner Patty Duke

As discussed in her IMDB bio, she suffered from manic-depression. Many years ago my family and I met her, on the location of a production (if you want to know particulars PM me). This all was before my first memories. As the story goes, between takes she was a bit sullen, but was thrilled to dote upon me (I was the youngest person on set by several years). Supposedly my siblings got autographs (I have never seen them) and I wet myself while on her lap (I was in diapers at the time.)

Recently one of the networks that broadcasts old game shows has been playing TattleTales. She and her then husband John Astin were in a number of episodes.
