In it, and the PBS TV version of [u]Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy[/u], Sir Alec Guinness played the role of George Smiley.

PBS also adapted [u]The Perfect Spy[/u] for TV.

Yes, several of John le Carré's novels were turned into films and/or TV series:
recent examples are The Night Manager, The Little Drummer Girl and A Most Wanted Man.
But you have to read the prose of his books to feel the real quality of his craftsmanship.

When the cold war ended, he said he hoped that the US would use the unique opportunity not merely selfishly
but to the benefit of people across the globe. He was sorely disappointed.

And in his final novel he dismisses the politicains currently running Britain as "tenth-raters".

John Le Carré was on my to-do list after finishing Tom Clancy but looks like now book costs will raise. Will see next week if I can find them on the charity bookshop.
